MANILA, Philippines?Marky Cielo?s fellow GMA 7 talents and close friends who visited his wake on Monday morning honored the late actor in an atmosphere that was quiet and solemn, actress-TV host Carmina Villaroel told Inquirer Entertainment.
The actress-TV host was among the few people who were given access inside the Cielo home in Antipolo City, where Marky's body will remain until Wednesday morning. It will be brought to Marky?s hometown in Benguet province.
Carmina interviewed Marky's mom, Mildred, for the Kapuso morning magazine show "Sis."
"I think everybody appreciated the peaceful ambience. I was told that the place is beautiful, especially at night time. It sits on top of a hill overlooking the Ortigas area," Carmina shared. "People in the wake had mixed emotions?-happy because it was a get-together of some sort, and sad because Marky, who was well-loved, was already gone."
Marky, Mark Angelo Cadaweng Cielo in real life, reportedly died in his sleep on Sunday morning. He was 20.
Marky joined show business via the GMA 7 reality talent search "Starstruck: The Nationwide Invasion" in 2005. He was the contest winner. He was last seen in the soap series "La Lola."
Marky's mother found him sprawled on the floor of his bedroom at 10 a.m. on Sunday, a statement from GMA 7 said. The actor was then brought to the nearby Antipolo Doctor's Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival, the statement added.
Carmina said she sensed that Mildred has not yet come to terms with the fact that her son has died. "Her mind seems to be floating. I can empathize with her because I've gone through the same experience when my mom died," the TV host said.
Mina added that when the cameras stopped rolling, she hugged Mildred and said: "It's okay Tita. I will pray for you and Marky."
She continued: "No matter what I say, I cannot take away her pain. Only time can heal her pain."
A sobbing Rhian Ramos was interviewed for "Sis" on Sunday night. The actress said she was devastated to hear of Marky's death just when they were starting to know each other better. "Konti lang ang mababait na tao dito sa industriya. Bakit s'ya pa?" she said of her "La Lola" co-star.
JC de Vera, who also worked with Marky in "La Lola," said he was shocked with the news of Marky's death. "We were just together at work on Friday," he added.
Mart Escudero, who considered Marky his closest buddy in show biz, said it was hard for him to accept his friend's passing. "We treated each other like brothers. We send each other text messages every morning. I got used to waiting for him during rehearsals on the set of 'SOP'," said Mart. "I will miss him. Totoong tao kasi s'ya."
Ryza Cenon, when she first heard of Marky's death, was convinced that it was nothing but a bad joke. "Ang sabi ko, hindi totoo 'yan. We were just together a few days before Sunday. I called up his phone several times. I kept saying, 'Please pick up! Please pick up!' There was no answer. Wala akong magagawa," she recalled.
Lovi Poe, the actor's on-screen partner in "Bakekang," "Kaputol ng Isang Awit" and "La Lola," said Marky was her best friend and playmate. "Pag magkasama kami sa set, para kaming mga bata na naglalaro. I will surely miss him. I am devastated by his loss," Lovi said in a text message to Inquirer Entertainment. Lovi?s manager Leo Dominguez added that the young actress remained in grief and was ?still crying? as she taped for ?La Lola,? the latest television series where they were featured as a love team.
"Akala ko stir lang. Akala ko niloloko lang ako," said fellow "Starstruck" finalist Mike Tan. "We attended workshops together. Mahirap tanggapin na wala na s'ya. I even texted him (on Sunday). Sabi ko, 'magreply ka naman, pare. Kahit ano lang.'"
Yasmien Kurdi, also a "Starstruck" finalist, described Marky as an "angel." She added that unlike other actors his age, Marky had no vices. "Sobrang bait n'ya," she stressed.
Comedian Benjie Paras has this to say to Marky's loved ones: "Masakit mawalan ng anak. Marky was a good person. At least we know where he is now. I'm sure he is happy wherever he is."
Carmina's "Sis" co-host Gelli de Belen said she knew Marky because he was one of the show's regular guests. "He was an exceptional dancer," she added. "He was the nicest boy. Kaunti lang ang kagaya n'ya. Everyone was so shocked. Sayang talaga."
