KC CONCEPCION says she was stunned that her mom Sharon Cuneta and stepfather, Sen. Francis Pangilinan, were ?so cool? about Gabby Concepcion?s videotaped greeting during Sharon?s recent birthday show.
She told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that night, ?Peace at last.? She said no one could ever know what she had gone through before that moment of virtual reconciliation.
Here she talks about those feelings at length, and also about her readiness for commitment as a young woman.
Exactly how did you feel when your dad Gabby greeted your mom?
I was backstage, getting ready for my dance number. Then I heard his voice ? I ran to the nearest TV monitor.
I was surprised. As their daughter, I worked hard, in my own little way, to help in their peace process. We had all gone through a lot as a family. I don?t think people would ever understand all the emotions I went through. So that was fulfilling for me.
I?m so happy that my mom also greeted Tita Genevieve (Gabby?s current wife) and my sister Samantha. Papa has his own life now, and Mama has hers. I?m just so glad that everyone is cool about it. New year, new life.
Is a movie with the three of you still an impossible dream?
I think so. There are a lot of people involved. They both have their own families. Out of respect, we don?t want to rock the boat. But, as they say, nothing is impossible. I?ll be fine, whatever God wills.
My Papa?s video greeting was a gift from God. That it happened, and that my mom and Dad Kiko are cool about it... wow! Natulala ako (I was stunned).
Performing daredevil stunts for her mom?s annual birthday celebrations seems to have become a tradition for KC. Last year, she was suspended in mid-air in a harness. This year, she did a dance number on a see-saw.
Dance teacher Gorcelle Dapat of G Force Dancers said KC was a ?fast learner.? But the singer-actress insisted that joining Cirque du Soleil isn?t her immediate goal.
Her current priorities are her new movie with Richard Gutierrez, ?When I Met U?; her upcoming soap opera, ?Lovers in Paris? with Piolo Pascual; and her job as National Ambassador against Hunger for the United Nations World Food Program.
Her UN work allowed her to meet former US President Bill Clinton for the Clinton Global Initiative forum held in Hong Kong last month.
What was it like, meeting former US President Clinton?
I was nervous being in the same room as people you only read about in The Economist (magazine). I was star-struck.
I also met Korea?s ambassador Jang Dong Kun, a famous actor in his country. He and I have committed to raise $4.2 million for seven Asian countries: Myanmar, East Timor, the Philippines, Bangladesh, India, Laos and Vietnam.
What was Clinton like?
Sincere, charming, passionate about his work. He?s very concerned about climate change.
Your mom loves him.
Yes. I requested my UN contact to ask him to autograph three copies of his book, ?Giving,? for me, my mom and a friend (cinematographer Shayne Sarte).
You?re doing ?Lovers in Paris? with Piolo?
We?ll be taping in Paris for 11 days. I?m very excited.
I first met Piolo when I was 18. We lost touch for a while when I went to college [in Paris]. The new soap (based on a Koreanovela) was a welcome surprise for both of us.
He used to visit me on the set [of my debut movie ?For the First Time?] to convince me to do the show. It was as if he was courting me.
Paris is your turf.
I have a feeling I?ll also be the location manager. When I watch movies [set in Paris], I recognize every corner.
What?s it like to work with Chard again?
We?re more relaxed and comfortable. We just shot our kissing scene in Subic. In our first movie, I was nervous. Now, we?ve nailed it na. It helped that we?ve traveled together. Now, we?re like old friends.
Chard?s mom (Annabelle Rama) wants you to end up with him?
Wow! I?m at a point in life when I?m meeting different guys... Chard will always be special. I learned a lot from him when we made our first movie.
Your mom thinks you?re not the type to get married early.
Maybe I haven?t found the right guy. But I can say I?m ready to commit. I?m the type of person who values commitment, whether with friends or partners.
