MANILA, Philippines?John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo emerged as the highest-grossing movie team up in 2008 for the romantic comedy, ?A Very Special Love,? which turned out as the local box-office topnotcher in SM Cinemas around the country.
Cruz and Geronimo will be named SM Cinema Box Office King and Queen, the first time the theater entertainment group of the mall and retail conglomerate will present such recognition to show biz personalities in ceremonies on February 18 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
Star Cinema, the film producer, will also be awarded SM Cinema Top Grossing Film Company of the Year. This is in recognition of the continued box success of all its films in 2008, apart from ?A Very Special Love,? which it co-produced with Viva Films.
The award is a fitting prelude to the upcoming release of the film?s sequel, ?You Changed My Life,? which also headlines Cruz and Geronimo with the same cast in the first offering. Blockbuster director Cathy Garcia-Molina is still at the helm. The lone addition, Rayver Cruz, will provide a good ?love triangle? twist to the story.
The film opens nationwide on February 25.
The first movie was touted to have earned more than P190 million in 2008, which Star Cinema executives admitted was a surprise to the studio.
?We were surprised but very, very happy that the Sarah-John Lloyd team-up generated a big number of followers and supporters thinking that ?A Very Special Love? was just their first film together,? said Roxy Liquigan, Star Cinema advertising and promotions director.
