Almost, but not quite.
This was the ?American Idol? Season 8 judges? verdict on the performance of third castoff Alexis Grace, who thought it was ?too early in the game? for the ?Judges? Save? veto power to be used in her favor.
The 21-year-old single mom from Tennessee was voted out after singing Dolly Parton?s ?Jolene.?
?It was flattering [that they considered using their veto rule] but ? they?d probably want to use it later in the show,? Grace said in a conference call arranged by Star World.
Asked how she felt while singing her song the second time, Grace admitted she didn?t quite hit some points. ?I was upset. Sometimes you have bad nights; that?s what happened.?
You did look sad when you were standing there and they told you ?No.?
It was a little bit surprising because I never imagined myself going home that early.
When you were choosing songs for ?Country Night,? did you even consider doing a more contemporary song?
I felt like everybody knows ?Jolene,? and I thought it?s such a pretty song that could get away with, as opposed to a contemporary number, like one by Carrie Underwood.
Looking back, do you think you?d have done better with another number?
I probably would have done better with ?Never Loved a Man,? which I sang earlier, because it?s more my element?soul?that?s what they loved about me, and what got me some attention.
Were you disconcerted by the fact that Randy (Jackson) couldn?t remember your name?
A little bit. But I think that?s just ? his personality [and] not because I?m forgettable. I made a face when he called me Allison.
Are you going to keep your pink highlights and edgy look?
Definitely. I may change the pink highlights. I?m always into changing hairstyles, trying new things, but yes, I?ll keep the edgy look.
There are fewer women than men this year. Do the women have to work harder?
Yes. You have to do your part and show those little girls out there who are voting for all the boys that, hey, we?re here, too.
?American Idol? Season 8 airs live Wednesday and Thursday, 6 PM, on Star World with same-night replays at 8 PM and 11 PM.
