MANILA, Philippines - Marvin Agustin treated some entertainment writers to lunch at Marciano’s in Greenbelt 3 soon after his birthday.
In a short chat with Inquirer Entertainment, Marvin revealed his plans as he turned 30.
We heard you’re very serious about archery.
Yes. It gives me a different high. I’m in the national team. We’re preparing for the World Championships in Korea this October and the SEA Games in Laos in December. A friend introduced me to the sport two years ago. I was just playing for fun, until the team coach invited me. I joined the Asian Grand Prix last year — that was my exposure tournament.
How much training is required?
I train mornings, five times a week at most, with the national team. Then I work in the afternoon ... I’ve incorporated archery into my everyday routine. My show biz commitments aren’t that much affected because it’s not like basketball where you really have to train with the team. Sometimes I bring my set of bow and arrows to work and train in a corner.
Is this what’s new with Marvin Agustin?
Yes, you can say that. I’ll also be doing more movies this year. I’ve started shooting (Raul Jorolan’s) “2,999” for Unitel Pictures with Nikki Gil. It’s a love story with the Edsa Revolution as backdrop. My character steals a pair of shoes from Imelda’s (Marcos) famous collection during a school field trip to Malacañang when he was 7.
Do you have a dream role?
I liked what Leonardo de Caprio did in “Blood Diamond.” I also liked Tom Cruise in “Jerry Maguire” and Brad Pitt in “Curious.” These are all offbeat roles.
Any plans of producing your own film?
I have a couple of ideas but I can’t do it alone. I will try to find time to present these ideas to my business partners. But, honestly, this is the least of my priorities at the moment. We’re opening four more restaurants in the next few months.
What’s your birthday wish?
I haven’t really thought about that. Fulfillment for me is when my work is OK, when my twins (3-year-olds Santiago and Sebastian, ) are happy and I’m doing well in my chosen sport. I also hope to do more movies that all Filipinos will be proud of.
