MANILA, Philippines? An award-giving group made up of educators has picked ?Ploning,? ?Caregiver? and ?Baler? as the past year?s top movie releases.

The Samahan ng mga Dalubguro ng Pang-Madlang Komunikasyon this week named the three movies Pinakapasadong Pelikula (Best Picture), specifically citing them as the best for viewing by Filipino students.

Emmanuel Gonzales, chair of the 11th Pasado Gawad Singing Sine 2008, said the works of Dante Garcia (?Ploning?), Chito Roño (?Caregiver?) and Mark Meily (?Baler?) are perfect aids in classroom discussions.

Romantic drama

?Ploning? (Panora-Manila Pictures), a romantic drama about a girl?s hidden feelings as told from a man?s point of view, is also the Pinakapasadong Pelikula sa Pag-gamit ng Wika award. Garcia is Pinakapasadong Direktor (Best Director) and lead actress Judy Ann Santos shares the Pinakapasadong Aktres (Best Actress) honors with Sharon Cuneta (?Caregiver?).

The winners will receive their trophies in a ceremony to be held at the old Manila Grand Opera Hotel on Doroteo Jose St., Manila, 4 p.m. on May 16.

?Caregiver? (Star Cinema) is about Filipino workers in London. ?Baler? (Viva Films) recalls the siege by Filipino revolutionaries of a fortified church manned by colonial Spanish troops in Baler, Aurora, for almost one year.

Animated film

Cutting Edge Productions? animated full-length feature ?Dayo sa Mundo ng Elementalia? receives a special citation, Pinakapasadong Pelikula sa Pag-gamit ng Animasyon. The film, an entry to the 2008 Metro Manila Film Festival, is about a boy who saves his grandparents from creatures of the underworld.

The Pinakapasadong Aktor (Best Actor) trophy goes to Jericho Rosales for his role as a Filipino-Spanish soldier in ?Baler.?

In ?Caregiver,? Sharon Cuneta plays a school teacher who works as a caregiver in London.
Lifetime achievement
Coco Martin is Pinakapasadong Katuwang na Aktor (Best Supporting Actor) for his work as the lover of a gay man in Francis Pasion?s ?Jay.?

Eugene Domingo gets the Best Supporting Actress award as the heroine?s best friend in Wenn Deramas? ?Ang Tanging Ina N?yong Lahat? (Star Cinema).

The Pasado Lifetime Achievement Award goes to German Moreno for oustanding contributions to the industry and for being a pioneer of the Philippine bodabil. Broadcaster Mel Tiangco is also getting a special award as executive vice president of GMA Kapuso Foundation.

Role models

Luis Manzano and KC Concepcion share the Pasadong Dangal ng Kabataan (Youth Award) for being good role models, said Gonzales.
