MANILA, Philippines?Actress Francine Prieto, whose mom Amy has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, said the family celebrated Mother?s Day with dinner at home.
?Mommy just had her first round of chemotherapy. We couldn?t risk exposing her to germs,? Francine told Inquirer Entertainment on Sunday.
Francine said doctors at Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan told them the sad news on May 5. Amy, 53, was taken to the hospital a week before that for abdominal discomfort. Tests confirmed that the cancer is in the third stage.
Because of her low hemoglobin count, Amy needs a blood transfusion before each chemo session. Blood donations may be brought to the CSMC, under the name Amelia Falcon.
?My mom cried when she learned, and I understand how scared she is, ?Francine said. ?Her mother died of cervical cancer and only recently, my dad, because of colon cancer.?
The actress said Amy needs an operation to remove a rectal tumor. Meanwhile, ?Mommy is trying to cope with the effects of chemo. I told her that we?ll do everything to make her feel comfortable. She said she wasn?t too concerned about herself and that she was worried about us, her kids.?
Francine added: ?I?m really praying that she doesn?t lose her hair because of chemotherapy. Going to the beauty salon is her favorite relaxation.?
