?A distortion of the truth? was how the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board described on Tuesday a TV commercial showing a child spelling the word ?remittance? as ?L-B-C?? the name of a delivery/remittance company.
?To young minds, without the guidance of an adult, [this] presents an instructional digression,? Censors chair Marissa Laguardia said in a letter she sent to Ruperto Nicdao Jr., chair of Ad Standards Council Inc. and Herman Basbaño, president of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas.
Laguardia said the board received several complaints about the advertisement, which also features actor-TV host and Optical Media Board chair Edu Manzano. ?The [distortion] was even proclaimed and avowed as the truth by [the] host,? Laguardia pointed out. The setting is a spelling tilt and, reacting to the boy?s answer, Manzano says, ?Tumpak!?
Laguardia asked Nicdao to take a second look at the ad. ?The average child may not have [an] adult?s grasp of figures of speech,? said Laguardia.
Inquirer Entertainment tried to reach Manzano for comment but his mobile phone was either not working, or turned off.
Inquirer earlier reported that a resolution was passed by the members of the Catanduanes provincial board calling on the MTRCB and the Department of Education to have the ?misleading? and ?improper? TV ad pulled out.
