Being fit boosts Bea's confidence

MANILA, Philippines - Very amusing, but worrisome. That was how actress Bea Alonzo described rumors that she had also been victimized by the Hayden Kho sex video scandal — allegedly recorded using a spy camera while she was dressing up in one of the clinics of the Belo Medical Group.

Bea got worried when news of the rumor spread and started affecting the lives of her family.

The Belo Group, which Bea endorses, recently released a statement denying the video’s existence.

“My family and supporters have nothing to worry about. I have no sex video,” Bea told Inquirer Entertainment last weekend. “Direk Lauren (Dyogi, ‘Betty La Fea’ director) has confronted me about it. He advised me to defend myself by speaking publicly about it.”

Bea recently renewed her talent contract with the Kapamilya network. The actress is set to do three movies for Star Cinema, ABS-CBN’s movie arm. She’s currently filming “And I Love You So” with Sam Milby. A film with John Lloyd Cruz is also in the works.

Slimming down

Bea had to lose weight—all of 15 pounds — for “And I Love You So,” where she gets to wear a two-piece bikini for the first time.

To keep fit, Bea used to attend dance classes and Bikram Yoga, which is ideally practiced in a room heated to 40° C. She said she has also stopped eating rice for a month now.

“I know I could carry on with this diet,” said Bea. “My friend Angelica (Panganiban, actress) hasn’t been eating rice for eight years. Idol ko s'ya. I eat boiled eggs and bananas, and a lot of fresh fruits. I’m planning to work out in a gym soon. I agreed to be Ate Kris’ (Aquino) gym buddy.”

Bea added that “being fit boosts your confidence. A few months back, when I was still doing ‘Betty la Fea,’ I didn’t think I’d muster enough courage to wear a two-piece bikini in any movie. I had a full figure then. My character, Betty, is on the heavy side. I had to work hard to lose the extra weight.”

Her new movie called for Bea to bare some skin. “My character wants to break free from a monotonous life,” Bea said, “so she drops everything and goes to the beach.”
