Dollywood
Gabby wants to be ‘father of the bride’

GABBY Concepcion is clueless about his movie with his daughter KC. ?Honestly, wala pang sinasabi sa akin ang Channel 2 [Channel 2 hasn?t told me anything],? Gabs clarifies. ?But if ever meron nga talaga, sana [If ever there is, I hope] it would be a la ?Father of the Bride?.?

Who would he want to be KC?s leading man? ?John Lloyd if papayag si Ruffa [if Ruffa agrees](laughter).?

Why not Piolo Pascual who?s said to be ardently pursuing KC? ?They have a teleserye na so give chance naman to Lloydie. Mabait na bata. Nagkasama kami sa show in Europe [He?s a good boy. We were together in a show in Europe].?

Is he ready to be a father of the bride in real life? ?If and when KC wants to get married, that?s her call.?

For better or for worse, Gabs and KC will stick together for good.

Fresh twist

Carla Abellana is out to captivate viewers? hearts in ?Rosalinda,? which premieres Monday night on GMA 7?s Telebabad block. She will give a fresh twist to the character originally played by Thalia.

Doesn?t she feel pressured that it?s too much too soon? ?I was surprised to be chosen to portray the lead role na agad [so soon],? she exclaims. ?I know there are others who are more deserving. I?m sure their time will come, too. They just have to work hard for it.?

Isn?t she wary that some stars might be envious of her because they?ve been waiting for a big break and here she comes being launched to full stardom right away? ?They have nothing to be insecure or envious about,? she says. ?I look up to all of them.? Ahh! Living la vida linda a la Carla!

MJ marathon

Since I can?t go to the wake of my forever idol, Michael Jackson, I do my own vigil by having an MJ video/CD marathon nightly. My insomnia has turned into MJmania.

Ai Ai de las Alas cheered me up. ?Kung ako ikaw, punta ako sa wake. Mag pearls ka at black veil at big shades. Itsura ng [looks like] grieving widow,? she said in jest. ?Magpanggap ka na ikaw ang surrogate mother ng third child ni MJ kasi unknown till now identity nun, ?di ba? [Pretend you?re the surrogate mother of MJ?s third child. Her identity is not known until now, right?]?

That totally cracked me up. Then Ai turned serious. ?Kainis kasi si Alma Moreno nung nag concert si MJ dito. Kung pinapasok niya tayo backstage nung nag-rehearse kids natin with MJ eh di sana may pic tayo with him. Buti pa si IC may pic. If di lang ako naasar kay Alma nun, kasali pa sana si Sancho ko at may pic din sana siya with MJ. [Alma Moreno is irritating, when MJ had a concert her. If she let us in backstage when our kids were rehearsing with MJ, we could have had a picture with him, not just IC. If I were not at odds with Alma back then, Sancho would have been there and he must have had a picture with MJ].?

The King of Pop can never really be gone. His timeless hits will forever be No. 1!

Voice character

I had fun voicing one of the characters in the MTV Philippines animation ?Exit,? which was created for their anti-human trafficking advocacy. I never realized how hard it is to dub lines. Voice talents of Mexican/Korean telenovelas? Pinoy versions ought to be paid more.

Dingdong Dantes, Epi Quizon and Anne Curtis lent their voices too for MTV?s worthy cause. ?Exit,? which premieres July 24, will be aired all over Asia. It served as my entrance to the world of dubbers.

Beloved ?boys?

The two beloved ?boys? in my life, Boy Abunda and Boy So, have ventured into movie production via ?Astig.? A full-length feature digital movie that will compete at the 2009 Cinemalaya Film Festival, the movie is top-billed by Dennis Trillo, Edgar Allan Guzman, Arnold Reyes and Sid Lucero.

It?s an episodic tale of four young men trying to survive the sexual squalor, seductive filth and emotional perversity of Manila. It premieres on July 18, 9 p.m., with gala screening on July 23, 6:15 p.m. at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Main Theater. There will also be screenings in various CCP venues on July 19, 21, 22, 24 and 25.

?Astig? is bound to be something big!

PERSONAL: Super duper thanks to Georgette Tengco, Robert Quilao and Alvin Lacerna for helping me do what I thought I could not do. You made my first dubbing experience unforgettable!

ERRATUM: In a previous column, I wrote that Cristine Reyes has a tiff with RR Herrera. It should have been RR Enriquez. My apologies.
