Juday still worries about bad press

MANILA, Philippines? She?s been working in show biz for over two decades now, but award-winning actress Judy Ann Santos says she never got accustomed to reading negative comments about her in newspapers.

?I don?t know why I never got used to it. I easily get affected by the things I hear and read. I worry about people I failed to greet on the streets or at the malls. Ayaw ko sila magtampo. I feel I owe them whatever success I have,? Judy Ann told Inquirer Entertainment at the press conference of her latest film ?Oh My Girl (OMG),? produced by Regal.

But despite having throngs of fans screaming her name wherever she goes, Juday (her nickname) insisted that she?s really an extremely shy and cautious person.

In ?OMG,? Juday plays the role of Darling, the hottest star in tinsel town. Her best friend, Biboy?whom she met at an orphanage when she was still the little girl named Opao?is played by singer-comedian Ogie Alcasid.

?Despite being a superstar, my character Darling is lonely,? Juday explained. ?She thinks people are merely befriending her because she?s rich and famous. She finds comfort in the company of her personal assistant Frida, whom she later discovers to be Biboy.?

As someone who?s in the same profession, what advice can you give to somebody like Darling?

It?s not good na nagpapadala ka sa utos ng iba. You should follow your heart and everything will fall into place.

How has being a wife to Ryan (Agoncillo) changed your personality?

I became more confident. (But) I also became more conscious of my looks. I make sure I look pleasant in the eyes of his friends and loved ones.

What changes have you noticed in Ryan?

He has become more patient. Before joining show biz, he was very hot-tempered. He came from advertising where everything is fast-paced. With me he learned to be calm.

At 31, you?re rich, married and beautiful. You?re the new idol of women your age.

Nakakataba ng puso. But I didn?t plan any of these. I simply said to myself, ?I want to have a serious relationship. I want to look fit.? I believe that if you invite good things into your life, they will come ...

Do you like doing comedy?

My first comedy film, ?I?m Sorry My Love,? was with Joyce Bernal. I managed to finish it because Joyce is naturally funny. She was able to explain clearly what she wanted me to do with my character. I?m excited for viewers to see me in ?OMG.? I was made to wear mini-skirts and high-heels. Si Darling, Ingles pa nang Ingles. It?s a very interesting laugh story.

What?s it like working with Dante Nico Garcia (?Ploning?) again?

I think he?s a lot more confident now.

Are you open to producing another film similar to ?Ploning??

Of course, but it really depends on the material, the set location and who will direct it. ?Ploning? changed us a lot. We enjoyed the journey. It made us better persons.

?OMG? opens on July 29.
