Coming back soon to SM cinemas

MANILA, Philippines? The conflict between Star Cinema and SM theaters related to ?computation and payables? will be resolved within the week, Ric Camaligan, president of the National Cinema Association of the Philippines, announced on Friday.

?The issue is really not that complicated. I?m confident that as far as the upcoming movies produced by Star Cinema are concerned, there will be no more problem,? said Camaligan, who mediated in a meeting between the two parties on Friday. ?Everything will be back to normal by next week.?

However, he confirmed that Star Cinema?s ?And I Love You So,? directed by Laurenti Dyogi, will not be screened in SM theaters ?over the weekend [or] in the coming months.?

Earlier reports said SM management was irked because Star Cinema held the premiere of the movie featuring Bea Alonzo, Sam Milby and Derek Ramsay on Tuesday night at the Trinoma, an Ayala Mall, in Quezon City. This was denied by both sides.

?The conflict is really about what we call the sharing scheme between theaters and producers,? Camaligan explained, adding that the scheme is a little too technical to explain to most people. ?Both parties are positive that the problem will soon be threshed out.? Marinel R. Cruz
