CEBU CITY ? The Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) suspended the operations of a vessel of Gothong Shipping Lines that stalled at sea on Friday off Misamis Occidental after its engine conked out.
The MV Butuan Bay I was barred from proceeding with its trip to Iligan after the Marina suspended its safety certificate, Marina safety engineer Mardon Martin said Friday.
The suspension order was served at the shipping company?s office in Cebu Friday, Martin said.
The Butuan Bay I, which has over 100 passengers and about 50 crewmen, was able to dock at the port of Ozamis, said Commander Anelito Gabisan, chief of staff of the Coast Guard district in Central-Eastern Visayas.
Gabisan said the vessel left Mandaue City at 7 p.m. on Thursday and was enroute to Iligan via Ozamis City.
Gabisan said the vessel would be inspected to ensure its seaworthiness.
The ship was forced to drop anchor 9.8 nautical miles west of Plaridel, Misamis Occidental, after its engine conked out.
