MANILA, Philippines?Only two months away from the filing of certificates of candidacy for next year?s elections, big show biz stars Dolphy, Richard Gomez and Willie Revillame were sighted dining with Senator Manuel Villar, presidential timber, at the Manila Peninsula.
Gomez confirmed the Tuesday night meeting, saying Revillame had invited him. ?You could say that it was in preparation for the May 2010 elections,? said the actor.
He earlier announced his intention to run for Congress in his wife Lucy?s hometown of Ormoc, Leyte). ?I prepared early,? Gomez told the Inquirer. ?As early as March, I was laying the groundwork for my campaign.?
Will he run under Villar?s party? ?There?s nothing definite,? he said. ?We just discussed possibilities.?
Asked if Dolphy, an industry pillar, would campaign for him, Gomez said, ?We didn?t talk about that.?
Singer Zsazsa Padilla, Dolphy?s longtime partner, said the public shouldn?t speculate too much about the meeting.
Padilla explained that Dolphy and Revillame are doing a movie together for this December?s Metro Manila Film Fest.
But is Dolphy running for any office under Villar? ?He has made his stand clear in past interviews,? Padilla said.
In a previous interview with the Inquirer, Dolphy said that he had no political plans whatsoever. ?Madali ang tumakbo, pero pa?no kung manalo ako?? he said, only half in jest.
Dolphy and Gomez are known allies of former President Joseph Estrada.
Revillame, on the other hand, has been dropping hints about running in 2010. ?I pray about it. I?m waiting for signs from God and from the people,? he told Inquirer by phone on Wednesday. ?I?d like to go around the country to feel the pulse of the people.?
Revillame said Dolphy promised to support him ?all the way? if he decides to run.
The TV host also hinted on a plan to make a TV commercial with Dolphy, endorsing Villar.
