MANILA, Philippines ? The wrath of storm Ondoy has affected many Filipinos. We?ve checked the status of some show biz personalities. Here, they recall their experiences during the devastating weather disturbance:
Kim Atienza: As soon as the waist-deep waters in Malate, where I live, subsided, I was already in the newsroom. ABS-CBN embarked on a three-day ?Sagip Kapamilya? telethon from 5 a.m. to 12 midnight. I sat with Kris Aquino and Tina Monzon-Palma. I haven?t slept for three days. I barely saw my wife and kids, but it was my most fulfilling experience as a broadcaster.
Ronnie Lazaro: I went out with my wife at around 10 a.m. to go to the grocery at Rustan?s Makati?and I got home at 2 a.m.! We were in the car the whole time trying to look for an exit, only to be told upon reaching the end of every street that the water was neck-deep down the road. I wonder what the message is.
Heartbreaking
Rio Locsin: I was at home in Las Piñas. There was no electricity, and cable was down for two days. The lesson we get from this tragedy is to give importance to our relationships with other people. Material things can be replaced, but once life ends, you cannot bring a person back. It was heartbreaking to see dead people being retrieved, along with animals and appliances.
Bianca King: Water came into our kitchen, but I was lucky, there was no property damage. The following day, I brought food and unused clothes to the Red Cross. I helped pack and distribute relief goods in Pateros until 7 a.m. the next day.
Coreen ?Monster? Jimenez: The Arkeofilms (?Big Time,? ?Baby Angelo?) office needs major rehabilitation. The water was chest- and shoulder-deep, and the newly refurbished place is now a muddy mess. But, we were lucky no one was harmed or hurt.
Stranded
Ricky Orellana (of Mowelfund): Members of the National Archives committee were stranded at Naia Terminal 2. There was no way we could get out of the airport, so we spent the night there and slept on the floor?we looked like refugees.
Raymond Red: My brother, Jon (director of ?Eva Fonda?), and his family were trapped at Imelda ave. near Cainta. They were sitting ducks on top of a van. As they waited in the dark with no food, it was a night of terror for them. They got home beaten, shaken and hungry!
