MANILA, Philippines?Four men who claimed they were victims of storm Ondoy robbed and stabbed a taxi driver in Quezon City early Sunday, police said.
Police identified the victim as Desmar Mendoza, 37, a resident of Caloocan City.
Mendoza told police that before they announced the hold-up, the robbers told the victim they were also victims of the flash floods last week, caused by tropical storm Ondoy.
Investigation showed that the victim, who drives for the CECMP Taxi company, sustained a stab wound in the right side of his body and was treated at a city hospital.
Mendoza told police that the robbers, armed with bladed weapons, took his day's earnings worth P1,300.
The victim said the robbers boarded his cab with plate number TWS-340 on Bremen Street in the village of North Fairview at 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
They had not traveled far, when the robbers declared a hold-up.
Mendoza said he tried to resist and fight the robbers, but one of them stabbed him at his side, and fled with his day's earnings.
Police said the wounded victim mustered the strength to drive his cab to the hospital and get treated.
