MANILA, Philippines ? Comedienne Ai Ai De Las Alas said she felt ?relieved? when one of her ABS-CBN bosses informed her last week of the cancellation of ?Ruffa and Ai,? the morning show she co-hosted with Ruffa Gutierrez.
?I had long told (ABS-CBN Entertainment TV head) Linggit Tan about my wish to quit hosting the show because it was in conflict with my other commitments. Hindi na kaya ng katawan ko,? Ai Ai told Inquirer Entertainment recently.
?That?s why when (Channel Head) Cory Vidanes called for me last week ... I felt relieved. At first, I thought I was there to explain why I wanted out. ?Yun pala, she simply wanted to let me know about her plans,? Ai Ai explained.
?Ruffa and Ai? aired its final episode last Oct. 23. The Chinese soap series ?3 Dads and 1 Mommy? replaced the show on Monday. The reality talent search ?Showtime,? with Vhong Navarro and Anne Curtis as hosts, has taken over the timeslot of ?Pilipinas, Game KNB?? since Saturday.
Ai Ai plays the lead role in the Wenn Deramas comedy film ?Ang Tanging Pamilya: A Marry-Go-Round,? which opens in theaters on Nov. 11. It also features former President Joseph Estrada and Dionisia Pacquiao, mother of boxing champ Manny Pacquiao.
Ai Ai is also part of the TV adaptation of ?Pepeng Agimat,? one of the four shows included in the series ?Agimat: Mga Alamat ni Ramon Revilla Sr.? that started airing in August.
Meanwhile, the comedienne confessed that she had received an invitation from Estrada to ?attend and promote their film? during a recent gathering on Plaza Amado Hernandez in Moriones, Tondo, where Estrada announced his decision to run again for President in the May 2010 national elections.
?I wasn?t able to make it because I had a scheduled shoot,? said Ai Ai, a known supporter of presidential aspirant Sen. Benigno ?Noynoy? Aquino III. She has also described herself as a ?Corista,? a loyal follower of the late President Corazon Aquino.
