Dollywood
Andrew E drops ‘uglies,’ now eyes sophisticates

ANDREW E CAN HARDLY CONTAIN HIS excitement about his new album, “Club Zilla.” He told us, “For a change, I’m targeting the AB market—that’s why I ventured into club music. You can’t appreciate the songs in this album if you don’t party. The sound is 15 decibels lower, so you can feel your heart pounding.”

The cool rapper is done with telling us, “Humanap ka ng pangit.” In the first track, he sings of yearning for someone sophisticated. Some kind of an evolution or revolution?

One-on-one

I enjoyed my one-on-one interview with Amy Perez on my daily cable TV show with Maui Taylor and Mr. Fu, “Stop, Talk & Listen” (Cignal TV’s Viva Cinema Channel).

Amy confessed that when her former noontime show, “MTB,” folded, she got so depressed that she needed to consult a psychiatrist to get back into the groove. “The doctor told me to determine the reason that it happened. At first, I couldn’t see it. Then it hit me: I had missed out on my son Adi’s formative years because I was too busy working. When “MTB” ended, I got to make up for lost time with him. That made me snap out of my sorry state.”

Sometimes the worst things turn out to be the best, apres tout.

Mum’s the word

Kitty Girl Ayanna Oliva would rather not talk about her longtime romance with Boy 2 Quizon. “Since I’m quite new in the biz, I don’t want people to think that I’m using him so that I’ll become sikat agad,” she says. “I want to carve out a name on my own merits. I’ve met the entire Quizon clan. I’m happy that they make me feel welcome.”

There should be something more significant about every person than having a famous significant other.

Quiet love life

Joross Gamboa is happier with his love life now. “It’s quieter when your girlfriend is not from show biz,” he says. “When I was still courting Kathy, she didn’t know I was an actor ’cause she just got back from the States, where she was based for a long time. So the foundation of our relationship is solid. She didn’t go through a starstruck phase.”

The hard thing about falling for an actor is that sometimes he is more in love with himself than with you. Fortunately for Joross and Kat, their romance is not show biz-y at all.

All praise

Erik Santos’ new album, “The Jim Brickman Songbook” consists of the international singer’s hits, plus three especially written for the album.

Erik is all praise for Brickman. “It was the first time that my knees felt wobbly while recording. I was being watched by an icon!” he told me.

“Jim taught me that singing should come straight from the heart,” Erik continued. “One should feel the words, not shout them.” What a cool-aboration!

Promise fulfilled

Kris Aquino has fulfilled her promise to Mother Lily and the latter’s daughter Roselle Monteverde. Kris is doing a support role in Regal Films’ “Mano Po 6: My Mother,” the outfit’s official entry to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival.

Despite a very tight schedule, Kris agreed to play the best friend of Sharon Cuneta’s character in the film, lending even more stellar appeal to the already powerhouse cast that includes Christopher de Leon, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Heart Evangelista, Dennis Trillo and Ciara Sotto.

Kris admits she didn’t think twice when Roselle called to offer her the guest role, because she has always been a Sharonian. She also waived her talent fee for the movie. Maybe a “Mano Po 7” should be called “My New Best Friend,” top-billed by Mega and Krissy.
