MANILA, Philippines?(UPDATE) Actor Johnny Delgado died Thursday of complications from lymphoma. He was 61.

"Daddy put up a good fight. He didn't want to leave his family,? said his daughter, actress Ina Feleo.

Delgado, Juan Marasigan Feleo in real life, died at his home in Quezon City with his wife, actress-filmmaker Laurice Guillen, daughters Anna and Ina, and his closest friends by his side.

?Daddy was a very religious man. His faith kept him strong. We told him not to worry about us and to just rest. We didn't want him to suffer anymore so we asked him to simply let go,? Feleo said in a phone interview.

Delgado's cancer was diagnosed in 2008. He underwent eight cycles of chemotherapy.

He had an operation in August because of perforations in his intestines, "one of the side effects of chemo,? Feleo explained. He was too weak to stand another round of chemo.

On Nov. 15, Delgado was taken to the St. Luke's Medical Center after he vomited blood. ?He left the hospital two days later. Daddy said he just wanted to go home,? Feleo said.

Delgado, the son of film director Ben Feleo and educator Victorina Marasigan, appeared in almost 60 films and TV series in his over four decades in show business. In 2004, Delgado wrote and acted in the dramatic movie ?Santa Santita,? which Guillen directed.

Delgado's last project was the short feature ?Labing Labing,? which Feleo wrote and directed. He teamed up with Guillen, playing a married couple in the film.

Delgado's wake is at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Shrine in New Manila, Quezon City. Interment will be at the Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina on Nov. 24.
