MANILA, Philippines?(UPDATE) One of the 25 anti-mining hunger strikers camped outside the Department of Environment and Natural Resources has been rushed to a hospital in Quezon City, organizers said Saturday night.
Gardo Cruzado, a Mangyan protester from Victoria town in Oriental Mindoro, was brought to the East Avenue Medical Center after complaining of dizziness, Jeff Rafa of the Alyansa Laban sa Mina (Alamin, Alliance Against Mining) told INUIRER.net.
?His ears are already cold,? said Rafa.
The Mindoreños, mostly Mangyans, began their hunger strike Tuesday to protest Environment Secretary Lito Atienza?s issuance of an environmental compliance certificate to the Mindoro Nickel Project of Oslo-based Intex Resources.
The mineral exploration, which covers 11,216.6 hectares of land on Mindoro island, is located within the ancestral domain claims of the Alangan and Tadyawan tribes, Alamin said.
