MANILA, Philippines—After Susan Roces and Claudine Barretto, it’s comedian Bayani Agbayani’s turn to leave ABS-CBN for GMA 7.
Agbayani told Inquirer Entertainment that it is sort of a homecoming for him.
As a Masscom student in the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Agbayani had his on-the-job training in GMA 7.
After graduation in 1992, he joined the network as production assistant (PA) and, later, as assistant writer to Cesar Cosme on the noontime show “Salo-Salo Together: SST.”
Then he wrote for the late Giovanni Calvo’s show, “Katok, Mga Misis,” where he also got his first on-air “role” as Katokling, Calvo’s chauffeur/assistant.
For the past two years, his career has been in limbo. That was why he decided to make the move, he said. “I’m 40. I’d like to try all the ideas in my head while I’m still young.”
On his plate are: two daily TV shows, including “Todo Bigay,” with Manny Pacquiao, Mommy Dionesia and Eugene Domingo; a radio show with Susan Enriquez, whose current cohost, Arnell Ignacio, is running for public office; and a Sony-BMG album, to follow up on his hit “Otso-Otso.” Bayani San Diego Jr.
