The Kapamilya Christmas special, ?Bro, Ikaw ang Star ng Pasko,? held at the Big Dome on Dec. 11, was both a thanksgiving show and a preview of what the network has in store for 2010.
Zaijian Jaranilla, who plays the lead role of Santino in the top-rating drama. ?May Bukas Pa,? led the opening number. ?He talked about the true meaning of Christmas,? said Special Projects Group head Chit Guerrero, who was also the show?s executive producer.
Zaijian and the show are major breakthroughs for the network in 2009, said head for TV Productions Linggit Tan. When the show winds up in January, she said, Zaijian will work on a movie and another teleserye.
A highlight of the three-hour show at the Big Dome was the announcement of the yearlong ?60 years of Soap Opera? celebration. Judy Ann Santos, who first appeared in Channel 2?s ?Mara Clara,? in the ?80s, was declared ?The Face of Soap Opera.?
Rachelle Anne Go sang the theme song of Judy Ann?s coming series ?Habang May Buhay?; Agot Isidro and Gary Valenciano, those of two other forthcoming shows ?Tanging Yaman? and ?Kung Tayo?y Magkakalayo.?
Gabby Concepcion and daughter KC hosted a segment. ?They had never worked on a show together,? Guerrero said. KC and Gabby are set to do a Star Cinema film.
?Love Triangles Medley? featured songs by onscreen ?love triangles??KC, Piolo Pascual and Zanjoe Marudo of ?Lovers in Paris?; Erich Gonzalez, Enciong Dee and EJ Falcon of ?Katorse?; Jericho Rosales, Kristine Hermosa and Karylle of ?Dahil May Isang Ikaw?; Bea Alonzo, John Lloyd Cruz and Sam Milby of ?I Love Betty la Fea.?
?Lady Gago? featured Comedy King Dolphy with Vhong Navarro, John Lloyd Cruz, Billy Crawford and Luis Manzano. The ?Makabayan? medley starred Martin Nievera, Zsazsa Padilla, Vina Morales, Erik Santos and Christian Bautista. Pokwang, Chokoleit, Pooh, Brod Pete and Cacai impersonated presidential candidates.
Network president Charo Santos-Concio led the singing of ?Star ng Pasko,? station ID, and ?It?s Christmas all Over the World.?
?Star ng Pasko? was directed by Johnny Manahan. Conclusion of the two-part series airs at 10 tonight.
