We?re thrilled to hear that Fil-Am White House chef Cristeta Comerford, in tandem with famous TV cooking show host Bobby Flay, has won a special ?top chef? cooking square-off with Mario Batali and Emeril Lagasse on the popular ?Iron Chef America? weekly TV cookfest.
?Iron Chef? is one of the few shows that our ?foodie? family views on a regular basis, so you can bet that we?ll all be watching and cheering when the special telecast airs here soon on the Lifestyle Channel.
We?ve been fans of ?Iron Chef? since it first telecast its original Japanese version (which continues to be produced to this day). When its US version was launched, we started watching it, too, glad to see that it had been ?internationalized? to include cuisines from all over the globe.
In the Comerford special, the competing chefs were required to come up with five dishes, which were then evaluated on point of taste, presentation and originality.
Flay is known as a master at grilling, while Comerford has been praised for espousing healthy, organic cuisine. That?s a unique combination of specializations, and that very uniqueness may have worked in the tandem?s favor to boost them into the winner?s circle.
Both Batali and Lagasse have their own cooking shows. Lagasse is too over-the-top ?colorful? and bombastic for our taste, but our family dotes on Batali, who comes across as a jovial, overstuffed teddy bear.
Chef China
A new cooking show on the tube, ?My Favorite Recipes,? features young celebrity chef China Cojuangco. The crisply edited show is only about 10 or 15 minutes long, but it airs three times a day?so, China?s cumulative exposure on TV is substantial.
Through the years, China has tried her hand at a number of creative pursuits?acting, singing, etc. At one time, she even took up filmmaking at Marilou Diaz-Abaya?s institute in Antipolo.
Well, it looks like China has finally found her rightful niche in cooking and TV hosting. She appears genuinely eager to share her recipes with televiewers, and she makes it a point to feature no-fuss dishes that can be cooked in no time at all.
The fact that Chef China is lovely to look at is a decided plus for her new show. Also interesting to viewers is the fact that, despite being born with the proverbial silver spoon in her mouth, China is a practical, no-nonsense cook who offers cost-cutting tips.
China?s good looks make her a trendy choice for TV chef, because it?s currently fashionable on the international cooking scene to build shows around young chefs who are movie-star lovely or handsome.
For instance, show biz scion Giada Di Laurentiis is a raving beauty, and Bobby Flay and Ming Tsai are hunks in their own right. China is a welcome addition to their telegenic company.
