MANILA, Philippines ? Fans of Tom Jones who are looking forward to watching the veteran performer?s concert Sunday night at the Araneta Coliseum will have to wait for the promoter to announce a new date ? after the Welsh singer was forced to postpone the show due to acute laryngitis.

Concert promoter Renen de Guia of Ovation Productions sounded glum on the phone, as he told the Philippine Daily Inquirer the unexpected news: Jones was performing Friday night in Singapore when, just on his second song, he stopped the music.

Late-breaking news posted at 11:23 p.m. Friday on the website straitstimes.com in Singapore said that Jones, 69, was at the Compass Ballroom of the Resorts World Sentosa singing ?Give a Little Love? from his new album ?24 Hours? when his voice cracked on the song?s last few notes.

?I have a problem,? said Jones as he cleared his throat. ?Honestly, I don't think I can carry on. I hope we can do this again soon.?

The report said Jones walked off the stage. ?At first, the nearly full-house audience of about 4,000 thought it was a stunt. Some cheered for him and sang the chorus of his hit song, ?Delilah.? Reality hit home when the lights came on and confusion followed. It took about 10 minutes more before the organizers announced that the concert had been postponed.?

In Manila, De Guia said tickets to Jones? gig at Araneta had been sold out. The Big Dome normally packs more than 10,000 people during concerts. De Guia said all ticket holders were advised to hold on to their tickets pending announcement of a new rescheduled date.

Jones is currently on tour. The last time he had to stop singing was in the 1970s, when he had to undergo an operation to take out nodules in his throat. ?Thank God I was able to regain my voice after that,? he told the Inquirer in a recent interview.
