Kim Chiu likes to pay it forward

Young actress Kim Chiu is all for paying it forward.

The Chinese-Filipino actress recently visited the Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital in Sampaloc, Manila, to donate milk, medicines and medical supplies.

?I read an article in a magazine about how Fabella is in terrible need of medical equipment and supplies. It also mentioned that it gets really crowded in the nursery. Sobrang kawawa,? she told Inquirer Entertainment.

The Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital is a maternal and newborn tertiary hospital founded in the 1920s. According to a Wikipedia report, 20 percent of babies in Metro Manila are born here. As of 2003, it has an average of 88 daily live births.
Outreach programs

Kim, Kimberly Sue Yap Chiu in real life, turns 20 today. ?I try to organize outreach programs like this every year. It?s my way of sharing my blessings. Not all girls my age get to experience what I have now. That?s why I?m forever grateful,? she explained.

Her dream house, which stands on a 900-sq-m lot in Loyola Grand Villas in Quezon City, is one of her birthday gifts to herself. ?The house will be finished by November. My four siblings and I will be staying there. It is the product of my own sweat and blood,? she said, adding that the lot alone had cost her P7 million.

Kim arrived in the interview carrying a turquoise Hermes clutch ? another birthday treat for herself. ?I said, I?m turning 20 now, makabili nga ng isa,? she said.

Now that she?s a year older, Kim said she hoped to take on ?more mature and dramatic? roles on TV and on the big screen. ?My ultimate dream is to win a Best Actress award. The toughest role I?ve done so far is play Audrey in ?Tayong Dalawa.? Tinodo ko talaga,? she declared. ?I also want to gain more weight. This is why I?m spending more time in the gym. I?ve recently gone up from 94 to 98 lbs. My goal is to reach 110 lbs.?

Kim was the first winner of ?Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition? in 2006. Six months following the end of the show, she was paired with Gerald Anderson and has since appeared in several ABS-CBN shows and films with him. They are currently part of the drama series ?Kung Tayo?y Magkakalayo.?

Birthday gift

On her 19th birthday, Kim got an expensive two-door refrigerator from Gerald, her rumored boyfriend. ?I made him promise not to give me anything grand this year. Nakakahiya na,? she said. Kim, on the other hand, gifted Gerald a Louis Vuitton traveling bag on his 21st birthday last month.

Kim denied tabloid reports that said she and Gerald ?disappeared? in one of their Kapamilya shows in New York. The two were allegedly found in a hotel room. ?OA naman ?yon. I went shopping and Gerald came along. He simply helped me carry all 12 pairs of shoes back to the hotel,? she clarified.
