MANILA, Philippines?International pop star Charice Pempengco turned 18 yesterday and continues to scale new heights as her single ?Pyramid? shot to No. 1 this week on the Billboard Dance/Club Play chart, overtaking ?Rude Boy? by Rihanna.

?Pyramid,? one of 14 tracks from Charice?s self-titled US debut album which hits record stores today in the United States and in the Philippines, has spent 11 weeks in the Billboard chart, where it was at No. 4 last week and No. 2 a few days ago.

Released in February as a digital single, ?Pyramid? went on to be promoted in US dance clubs and radio stations with 17 remix versions produced by various club DJs.

It is being sold in the US as a digital download via iTunes and Amazon.com.

Written by a Swedish record production team composed of David Jassy, Lyrica Anderson, Niclas Molinder, Joacim Persson and Johan Alkenäs, ?Pyramid? is a very impressive urban pop tune which also features R&B singer Iyaz from the Virgin Islands.

Filipinos who have heard the song on local radio and seen the video on YouTube must have noticed the fine quality of the lyrics, which compare love with the solid foundation that go into the building of a pyramid.

Charice herself is impressed with the way it was written. ?First time ko maka- encounter ng ganyang klaseng lyrics,? she told the Inquirer. ?Unique siya, kakaiba talaga.?

Today is also a special day for Charice, as she formally launches her album with a guest appearance on the ?Oprah Winfrey Show.? This marks her fourth guest stint on the highest-rated and longest-running daytime television talk show in America.
