‘Sad, scary, sentimental’ reunion

Sharon, Gabby today, in their daughter KC’s eyes

KC CONCEPCION admitted that the reunion of her parents Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion on the ?Sharon? Sunday show (June 13 and tonight) was ?the scariest moment? in her seven years as a public figure.

?I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown ? that I would emerge crawling from the ABS-CBN studio,? she related at the recent launch of Palmolive?s ?Go Natural Charm Bracelets.?

KC recalled that her parents were estranged for what seemed to be the longest time. ?They were not on speaking terms. That?s why when I visited my Papa in the United States three years ago, I made sure they got to talk on the phone ? without fighting.?

?Like my wedding?

She believed everything was building up for that heady moment when they finally got together onstage for the taping of those two episodes, highlight of the promo campaign for her movie with Gabby, ?I?ll Be There? (Star Cinema).
?I survived because I realized that my fears didn?t need to be destructive. [The reunion] felt like my wedding day. As if it was a big celebration. As if we were at the Araneta Coliseum because the energy of the [live] audience was so high,? KC recalled.

Seeing her parents together was ?scary, sad and sentimental? for her.

?It was nostalgic to the highest level. I waited for it all my life, but it was also bittersweet that it was just for a TV show ? that everyone would see it as entertainment, when, in reality, it was also a way for us to resolve things ? to be finally and officially at peace.?

While KC was, at times giddy and teary-eyed during the taping, mom Sharon remained mostly neutral.

?My mom told me that, while I was crying, she played a song in her head,? KC recounted. ?She didn?t listen to or absorb what I was saying so that she wouldn?t end up in tears, too.?

The reunion wasn?t just a ?show biz thing,? KC asserted.

?I sincerely believe there was a purpose ? why we all met again and why we reunited on the show,? she said.

It was all about touching lives. ?I really appreciated it when someone said that my story inspired her to renew ties with her own father and not be so angry anymore.?

One-shot deal?

Her parents? reunion wasn?t a one-shot deal, either.

?I can say that they are friends now. Since we?re all employed by ABS-CBN, we?re bound to see each other at the office. I think there are times when Papa visits her in the studio just to say hi.?

KC was ecstatic that her dad publicly thanked her mom for raising her well and for not speaking ill of him when she was growing up.

?No matter how often she is called a great mom by the public, it would never weigh as much as hearing my Papa say it himself. It seemed that it really mattered to her,? KC noted.

Lest people think all this was in preparation for the much-awaited Sharon-Gabby or Sharon-Gabby-KC movie, think again, KC pointed out.

?If I?m not mistaken, there?s a movie with my mom in the works ? maybe next year, but a movie with my mom and dad would be too soon ?? she jested. ?Again, people may have a heart attack.?
