CANCUN, Mexico ? Andrew Garfield takes over Tobey Maguire as the Spider-Man, Columbia Pictures announced Thursday at an event attended by international journalists.
Garfield fills in the red and blue tights after a worldwide casting search. Marc Webb, (?500 Days of Summer?) will helm the new ?Spider-Man? movie to be released in 2012.
Garfield, here for interviews for ?The Social Network,? a movie about Facebook which also stars Justin Timberlake and Jesse Eisenberg, is a surprise choice for the top role. He won a BAFTA Best Actor for ?Boy A.? He will also be seen with Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan in ?Never Let Me Go.?
