MANILA, Philippines ? It will be a night of opera as two Filipino performers showcase their talents this August with music ranging from the famous bel canto operas such as the arias from L'elisir d'amore, Il Barbiere di Siviglia and La Traviata to Filipino classics like Pakiusap, Anak ng Dalita, and Awit ng Gabi ni Sisa.
Soprano Rachelle Gerodias, whose moving renditions of Turandot's Liu at Vienna's Volksoper and Singapore and performances as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro and Micaela in Carmen to local and international acclaim, will be joined by Arthur Espiritu, whose ?regal tenor? has electrified audiences in his appearances at the Teatro alla Scala Piccolo, Teatro di Milano, Pittsburgh Opera, Connecticut Opera, Opera Memphis, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
Gerodias has also performed with the Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra and recorded with the London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic and Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestras. In October she will be joining an international cast of singers in a production of Il Barbiere di Seviglia, making her operatic debut in Korea as Rosina.
Gerodias and Espiritu will be accompanied on the piano by Mr. Najib Ismail in the 8 p.m. concert to be staged at the Philamlife Theater on August 14.
