MANILA, Philippines ? Controversial TV host Willie Revillame said Monday that he was rescinding his contract with ABS-CBN in view of the shabby treatment he was getting from the network.
In a press conference, Revillame said he was finally leaving the network that gave him his biggest break through the now defunct noontime show, ?Wowowee,? because of continued violations of the terms of his contract.
?If I made a mistake, I think it is loving Wowowee too much and making it my life. Thus, when it was cancelled, it was as if my life was consumed as well, I see no reason why I should still continue my contract with ABS-CBN,? Revillame said.
Revillame was given an ?indefinite break? by the network since the May 4, 2010 incident wherein he threatened to resign from his popular noon-time show if the ABS-CBN management would not fire entertainment journalist Jobert Sucaldito who had criticized the show on several occasions. He later apologized to the management for his outburst.
Last year, Revillame also had to apologize to the public for complaining about the insertion of a footage of the funeral of the late President Corazon Aquino in his show. He later explained that he found it inappropriate for the network to insert a footage of a funeral in a supposedly happy show.
Revillame said he was supposed to return to Wowowee on July 31 as agreed upon
during his two meetings with ABS-CBN executives.
He said that during his July 10 meeting with Linggit Tan, head of ABS-CBN TV production, at his residence in Tagaytay, he gave inputs and suggestions on how to improve the program like new game shows and opening musical numbers.
The second meeting this time with ABS-CBN President Charo Santos-Concio on July 13 confirmed his return to the show.
As a result, Revillame said he immediately met with his staff and announced that they would be working again on Wowowee on July 31.
To his surprise, however, Revillame said that Tan asked for another meeting on July 20 and informed him that he would no longer be returning to the show.
On July 26, Revillame said he received a letter from Tan informing him that the company changed its mind by cancelling Wowowee and offering him a one-hour weekly program as a replacement, which would not be a live show but pre-recorded.
Wowowee was later replaced by ?Pilipinas Win na Win? with Kris Aquino and Robin Padilla, plus the original cast of Wowowee like Pokwang and Marielle Rodriguez.
Revillame said he was ?shocked? at the repudiation of the agreement for his return to the show.
