IN SPITE OF a raging controversy, Joel Lamangan?s ?Sigwa? got a grade of ?A? from the Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB), an office under the Film Development Council of the Philippines.
Earlier, author Lualhati Bautista had pointed out similarities between her novel ?Desaparesidos? and the screenplay of ?Sigwa.?
Citing the script as ?insightful and effective,? the CEB commended the producers and the filmmaker for attempting ?to bridge the gap between art and mainstream cinema.?
A CEB member said that the film ?makes us confront our own beliefs and encourages us to take a stand.?
A grade of ?A? means a 100-percent amusement tax rebate for ?Sigwa.?Bayani San Diego Jr.
