?Son of God,? a collaboration between Khavn de la Cruz and Danish filmmaker Michael Noer, will have its world premiere on Aug. 30 at the 2010 My World Images Contemporary Arts Festival in Copenhagen, according to the festival website www.images.dk.
The movie tells the bizarre story of a ?mystic? midget from Leyte (based in Manila) and his followers. It also takes a look at the Sto. Niño, Black Nazarene, Sinulog and Mt. Banahaw cults.
The festival in Denmark runs from Aug. 27 to Sept. 4.
?Son of God? is a product of the talent workshop ?Dox Lab 1,? which De la Cruz and Noer attended in 2009.
Commissioned by the Copenhagen International Documentary Festival, Dox Lab is a talent development and production program in which filmmakers, in teams of two, are ?challenged to think differently and find new approaches in making films?aesthetically and economically,? said www.cphdox.dk.
Twelve filmmakers from Africa, the Middle East and Asia were matched with 12 directors from the Nordic countries. Each team was given approximately 11,000 euros (about US$14,100) to cover production expenses.
Other films from the ?Dox Lab 1? program that will be screened in the festival are ?Jet?aime Infiniment? (?I Love You Forever?), by Corine Shawi (Lebanon) and Nikolai Larsen (Denmark) and ?Memory,? by Yves Montand (Rwanda) and Iris Olsson (Finland).
Meanwhile, De la Cruz?s ?Cameroon Love Letter,? a film shot in Africa and inspired by the drama series ?Pangako Sa ?Yo,? will be screened at the Kino Otok-Izola Film Festival in Slovenia, which will be held on Sept. 8-12.
?Cameroon Love Letter,? featuring Gertjan Zuilhof and Lourd de Veyra, is a musical shot during Khavn?s trip to the Republic of Cameroon, where ?Pangako Sa ?Yo? and its lead actors Jericho Rosales and Kristine Hermosa are very popular.
The Kino Otok-Isola Cinema Festival is a ?specialized competitive festival? focusing on contemporary production from the ?Third World cinematographies,? according to www.isolacinema.org.
De la Cruz said ?Cameroon Love Letter? is dedicated to the late Fil-Canadian film critic Alexis Tioseco and his partner, Slovenian freelance film journalist Nika Bohinc, who were brutally murdered in 2009. A special screening to commemorate the couple?s first death anniversary will be held on Aug. 29, 2:30 p.m., at the U-View Cinema in Fully Booked, Bonifacio High Street, Taguig City.
