Soldier killed in Bukidnon encounter

MANILA, Philippines ? One soldier was killed in an encounter with communist rebels in Sitio (sub-village) Gamot in the village of Sta. Filomena, Quezon, Bukidnon on Thursday, a spokesperson for the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

The shootout between members of the 1st and 2nd platoon of the 43rd Division Reconnaissance Company (DRC) and members of the New People's Army North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC) lasted for about 35 minutes, said Senior Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr.

Authorities have not yet determined the number of casualties from the NPA.
