TV HOST Ryan Agoncillo doesn?t get into a situation unprepared.
An expectant dad, Ryan recently ventured into a place where most grown men fear to tread?the operating room, to join a female relative who gave birth via Cesarean section.
He wanted to get an idea of what to expect when one?s wife is about to deliver a baby. (Wife Judy Ann Santos is due next month.)
He confessed that he already had a preview of the miracle of birth.
?I was doing research for a movie then,? Ryan recalled. ?I didn?t get queasy naman.?
At the launch of his latest endorsement, Enervon Multivitamins, he admitted in jest: ?My wife wants to install a home entertainment system in the hospital?s delivery room. She wants to watch movies while in labor.?
Judy Ann has obviously taken a proactive approach to her pregnancy. ?She takes yoga and breast-feeding classes,? said Ryan. ?Sometimes I sit in. We are also enrolling in a birthing class.?
He does his part in boosting his wife?s ego, too: ?With just one look, I assure her that she?s still beautiful, in spite of the baby bump.?
Judy Ann basks in the glow of impending motherhood, he said. ?She had a salon-spa day with Mommy Carol yesterday. She had prenatal massage and all-organic beauty treatments, plus manicure and pedicure.?
He related that, apart from yoga and walking in the neighborhood park, Judy Ann also gets plenty of exercise in the mall. ?She?s been shopping a lot. Recently, she bought lots of colorful socks for the baby and briefs for me.?
They?ve done a whole lot of shopping for the nursery, too.
?When we were in the US, we bought yellow, white and brown stuff to play it safe because we didn?t know the baby?s gender yet,? he recounted.
Upon their return, they learned the baby is a boy. He will be named Juan Luis or Lucho?after Ryan?s dad Luis Vicente.
?The baby?s room is her project,? said Ryan. ?She?s closely working with my stylist Gerry Santos who?s an interior designer by profession. She showed me several designs, which included blues and stripes.?
Is he planning to baby-proof their new home?
?You can only do so much and I wouldn?t want to force my child to wear a helmet everywhere,? he noted.
Little bumps and bruises, he said, ?are part of life. It?s impossible to totally baby-proof your house. You just have to make sure you are raising your kids in a safe environment.?
He promised that he wouldn?t be an overbearing dad.
?I?d hate to be a stage father. I?d let them enjoy their childhood,? he said.
With their eldest, adopted daughter Yohann who?s turning 6, Ryan has managed to strike a healthy balance between being a hands-on and cool parent.
