DAWN says yes to movies, no to politics.

Dawn Zulueta, fabulous at 41

MANILA, Philippines? Thanks to Karen Davila?s ?Hot Copy? for reminding us that, at 41, Dawn Zulueta is still one of show biz?s most interesting, beautiful and talented stars.

Dawn guested on Karen?s show to plug her current stage musical, ?A Little Night Music,? but ended up doing more than that: She made us want to see and hear much more of her in a range of new show biz involvements?soonest!

Dawn made that strong an impression not just because she?s retained her fabulous looks, but also because she?s matured into a fascinating person with many cogent things to say about a whole range of topics aside from the biz, from parenting to politics.

As she and Karen swapped anecdotes and opinions, we rued the fact that Dawn has been on semi-retirement mode for too long. But, we were cheered by the fact that she wanted to become active again as a performer (but, no teleserye, please, she found taping them too hectic and wearying).

Challenging roles

Yes, she would love to act in a film for Star Cinema, if the role is good and challenging. No, she didn?t see herself running for public office, because she didn?t feel up to playing that game, especially not the way it?s played in these parts. And (big revelation), she?s taking up ballet and is in fact learning to dance ?on point,? because it?s been a dream since, well, forever.

As Dawn revealed more of herself, we agreed with Karen when she observed that Filipino viewers should stop going so gaga over young stars, and should realize that mature or maturing actresses like Ms Zulueta simply have lots more to give than callow, shallow youthfulness.

For one thing, maturity has taught Dawn how to be more candid and forthcoming?within limits, of course. She talked a little bit about Richard Gomez and her other ?special friends? in the biz, but made it a point to remind everyone that those relationships were in the distant past, so let?s move on shall we?

There?s much more to Dawn Zulueta than her dazzling past?like the exciting present, and perhaps an even more exciting future?

Yes, we agree that Dawn should take on more challenging roles in movies, do more stage musicals, dance the ballet and achieve her other dreams. But, if her ?Hot Copy? interview left us with anything, it was with the hot-flash realization that Dawn would make a really good talk or talk-variety show host.

She has the looks, charisma, intelligence, flair, gift of gab, good work ethic and genuine interest in people needed for the demanding job. What are our TV producers waiting for?Christmas?

Come to think of it, Christmas 2010 is just around the corner! So, we hope that a new talk show hosted by Dawn will be one of the special gifts waiting for us under our Yuletide tree, just in time to be opened at the start of the 2011 TV season.
