Marian: Fans get wild sometimes

MANILA, Philippines? No she doesn?t tell overzealous fans to back off.

But actress Marian Rivera said that nasty online comments in her defense are often the result of sweeping reactions from emotional followers.

?They can get wild sometimes,? Marian said in Filipino. ?I can?t blame them. They care about me very much. They just want to defend me from people who say bad things about me. Whenever I get the chance, I tell them, ?Hayaan na, ?wag nang palakihin (Just let it go).??

Case in point was Vivian Velez?s comments on Marian?s performance in the defunct drama show ?Ang Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang? on GMA-7.

Vivian, who played the lead character Proserfina in the 1980 movie version, said Marian had been miscast: ?She lacked spunk. She looks too much of a good girl (to be Proserfina).?

?I couldn?t stop my supporters from reacting,? Marian explained. ?I guess they felt hurt. As far as I?m concerned, Vivian was asked to comment on the remake and she simply replied. I respect her opinion. What?s important is that I got a lot of good reviews. Let?s not turn this into a big issue. Vivian and I don?t know each other and have never worked together.?

Marian currently plays the lead in another remake?Regal Film?s ?Super Inday and the Golden Bibe,? first released in 1988 and top-billed by Maricel Soriano.

?She likes me for who I really am,? Marian said of Maricel. ?I met with her before I started working on this project. She said she?s happy that I?m doing it. She promised to support the film. Now, the pressure is on me. I have to do well.?

?Super Inday,? directed by Mike Tuviera, is an official entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival in December.

Marian said that, compared to playing the popular TV character ?Darna,? being Super Inday was easy. ?I?m naturally funny,? she explained. ?The biggest challenge was to do fight scenes in boots with three-inch heels. There was also a time when I almost got hit in the face by a flower pot.?

The actress added: ?I?m really proud of this film. It?s not every day that a GMA-7 contract artist gets to work with the likes of Pokwang, Cherry Pie (Picache) and Jake (Cuenca), who are all with ABS-CBN.?

Also in the cast are Mylene Dizon, Jestoni Alarcon, Sheena Halili, Buboy Villar, Jairus Aquino, Sabrina Mann and Elijah Aleho.
