MANILA, Philippines? The GMA Kapuso Foundation celebrated its 20th anniversary during a general assembly for employees on Nov. 11 at the network?s Studio 7 in Quezon City.

The foundation?s programs, covering cover four main areas?education, health, disaster relief, and values formation?have served millions of Filipinos.

In an interview before the assembly, news anchor Mel Tiangco, the foundation?s EVP and COO, said being a non-stock, non-profit operation was a big challenge in the aspect of funding. ?We?re lucky that the network supports us. At the same time, we thank the public who also help us. We need millions for our projects.?

Mel said finding the right people for the work wasn?t easy, either. ?The foundation can?t pay big salaries. We need people with big hearts. The first question I ask an applicant is, ?Do you have service in your heart?? But we have come to believe that the harder a project is, the more blessings we receive.?

Did she ever get frustrated? ?I get a little low sometimes,? she said, ?but you go on. It?s a calling, a vocation. I never become frustrated. The fulfillment I get compensates for everything.?
