Anak TV honors favorite stars, child-friendly programs

?I Find it amusing that I?m more appealing to the kids now that I?m a grandmother,? said ABS-CBN president Charo Santos-Concio, after being named one of the 30 TV personalities chosen to receive the Anak TV Makabata award by the Southeast Asian Foundation for Children and Television.

Every year, some 3,000 jurors representing various sectors participate in viewership surveys conducted all over the country to determine who among the current TV personalities and shows are their favorites.

Concio is the host of the longest-running drama anthology, ?Maalaala Mo Kaya,? on ABS-CBN. ?I hope I will be worthy of your emulation,? Concio said when she accepted the award on Dec. 8 in a ceremony held at the Soka Gakkai Auditorium in Quezon City.

Kapamilya roster

Other Kapamilya talents who belong to the roster of ?Makabata Stars? are Sharon Cuneta, Gary Valenciano, Aga Muhlach, Korina Sanchez, Gerald Anderson, Kim Chiu, Julius Babao, Christine Bersola-Babao, Kim Atienza, Anne Curtis, John Lloyd Cruz, Karen Davila, Ted Failon, Sarah Geronimo, Luis Manzano, Toni Gonzaga, Coco Martin, Angel Locsin, Vhong Navarro, Judy Ann Santos, Piolo Pascual, Bernadette Sembrano and Zaijian Jaranilla.

Jessica Soho, who is celebrating her 25th year in broadcast journalism, led the Kapuso lineup. ?It feels good to be able to give our audience what they want to see on TV,? said Soho, ?but it?s more important to give to them what they need to see.?

The host of the news magazine show ?Kapuso, Mo Jessica Soho? said she is thankful to loyal viewers, ?even though the news and public affairs team went through tough times this year, especially while covering the national elections and the recent hostage crisis.? Mike Enriquez, Vicky Morales and Mel Tiangco were also present to accept their awards.

Kapatid?s lone bet

Ryan Agoncillo, host of the talent search program ?Talentadong Pinoy? on TV5, was the Kapatid network?s lone representative in the roster.

?Talentadong Pinoy,? however, was among the Favorite TV programs of 2010. The other shows are ?Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho,? ?24 Oras,? ?Art Angel,? ?Imbestigador,? ?Unang Hirit,? ?Wish Ko Lang,? ?Agua Bendita,? ?ASAP,? ?Kung Tayo?y Magkakalayo,? ?Maalaala Mo Kaya,? ?Magkaribal,? ?Matanglawin,? ?May Bukas Pa/Noah,? ?Pilipinas Got Talent,? ?Rated K,? ?Showtime,? ?Sineskwela,? ?TV Patrol World,? and ?Umagang Kay Ganda.?

Anak TV Secretary General Mag Cruz Hatol, Movie and Television Review and Classification Board chair Grace Poe-Llamanzares and Undersecretary for Early Child Care and Development Teresita Inciong presented the trophies to each of the shows? representatives.

The Anak TV Seal is an award bestowed by various stakeholders?including parents, educators, representatives from the government and religious sector, among others?to child-friendly TV programs. TV5 received 14 Seals of its programs ?Mustard TV,? ?The Word Exposed,? ?Barney and Friends,? ?Blues Clues,? ?Bob the Builder,? ?Dora, the Explorer,? ?Global Grover,? ?Hi-5,? ?Inside the Fish Bowl,? ?Jimmy Neutron,? ?Postman Pat,? ?SpongeBob SquarePants,? ?Thomas and Friends? and ?Wonder Pets.?

Net 25 received the biggest number of Anak TV Seals with 21??Spoon,? ?Moments,? ?Ang Iglesia ni Cristo,? ?Ang Pagbubunyag,? ?Bundesliga,? ?Chronicles,? ?Discover Germany,? ?Global 3000,? ?Homepage,? ?I-Balita,? ?Iglesia ni Cristo and the Bible,? ?In Focus,? ?In Good Shape,? ?I-News,? ?Journal News,? ?Landmarks,? ?On Set,? ?Pasugo with Church News,? ?Red Carpet,? ?Tomorrow Today,? and ?Tribe.?

UNTV received 13 Seals for ?Bread and Butter,? ?Bread Tambayan,? ?Dito Po Sa Amin,? ?Doc on TV,? ?Estranghero,? ?Good Morning Kuya,? ?Istorya,? ?Kilalanin Natin,? ?KNC Show;? ?Law Profile,? ?Munting Pangarap,? ?Sports 37,? and ?Spotlight.?

NBN 4 shows ?Abante Pilipinas,? ?Balitalakay,? ?Batingaw,? ?BizNews,? ?Damayan,? ?Equilibrium,? ?Heart to Heart;? ?Komentaryo,? ?Negosyo Atbp.,? ?Power to Unite,? ?Sci-Pol,? ?Signs and Wonders,? ?Sulong Pa,? ?Bagong Bulakeno,? ?Takipsilip,? ?The Doctor Is In,? and ?The Young Once? were all conferred with the Anak TV Seal.

QTV 11?s ?Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader,? ?Aria,? ?Diyos at Bayan,? ?Go Negosyo,? ?Grimm?s Fairy Tales,? ?Hello Kitty and Friends,? ?Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair,? ?Legend of Sleeping Beauty,? ?Marco,? ?Midnight Prayers,? ?Pocahontas,? and ?True Confections? all got the approval of children viewers.

More winners

Among the Kapamilya programs that received the seal were ?Kapamilya, Winner Ka,? ?Kulilits,? ?Mag-TV na Baguio,? ?Mag-TV na CDO,? ?Mag-TV na Cebu,? and ?Salamat Dok.? Studio 23, an affiliate of ABS-CBN, got one seal for the youth-oriented show ?Y Speak.?

Anak TV Seal winning programs on GMA 7 are ?Adyenda,? ?Art Angel,? ?Happy Land,? ?PJM Forum,? ?Tropang Potchi? and ?Wish Ko Lang.?

Two shows from IBC 13 got the thumbs-up from young viewers??Express Balita? and ?Gabay at Aksyon.?

Three short films, created by kids ages 9 to 16, were screened during the show as part of the ?Young Hearts? project by the Anak TV group and Plan Philippines.

These films are products of a media production training conducted early this year in provinces like Masbate, Leyte, Samar and Mindoro.

Former censors chair Conzoliza Laguardia was also given recognition for being a staunch supporter of Anak TV and its causes.

To conclude the two-hour ceremony, CNN Hero of the Year Efren Peñaflorida and program host Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski led the rousing ?noise? rally for responsible TV.
