Mely Hechanova throws a lavish birthday party

MANILA, Philippines? One of our town?s top hostesses, a woman of substance and stature, Mely Concepcion Hechanova did it again!

She blew off another dazzling year from her delicious birthday cake, made by creative Maria Matute, dahlings, during a lavish dinner party for 120 invitees at her fabulous, awesome new home in chic North Forbes, palanggas.

The palatial home was a sight to behold. Gorgeous floor-to-ceiling front door was imported from Germany. Dazzling chandeliers at the foyer and the huge receiving, and living and dining rooms were superbly decorated by another woman of substance and taste, my palangga southern gal Nena Vargas Tantoco, no less.

She spruced up the place using the celebrator?s favorite colors: orange and chartreuse. Everywhere you looked you?d see gorgeously designed huge egg-shaped candelabras with etched glass urns from India, palanggas.

The dining tables had luxurious feathered placemats and copper/gold napkin rings. Would you believe several of these napkin rings disappeared, ooops. Now, whoever said the rich didn?t need souvenirs or steal, is wrong.

Moi noticed that Mely, dressed in a classy Inno Sotto in baby champagne accented with golden dyed feathers and her dazzling diamond necklace and earring, tirelessly welcomed each of her guests as they breezed into this one-of-a-kind residence, dahlings.

There were three rows of the excellently prepared dinner by the ever reliable La Tasca, plus Turkey and Roast beef carving stations; lechon table; not to mention the calorific, to-die-for desserts. It was definitely a night when everyone left his dieting at home.

She then gave Tatler?s Anton San Diego, photographer Alex Van Hagen and moi a personal tour of the house that was built to entertain in style at three different parts of the mansion. One for the hundreds of guests; another for an elegant sit-down dinner for 24 and another area for informal entertaining.

Our hostess? bedroom alone is mind-boggling, in gorgeous yellow and powder-blue. The dressing room has racks and racks of her clothes, from informal wear to ball gowns and exquisite ternos, that move around when you press a bottom to choose an outfit.

What I love most in her bathroom --its shower room has a floor-to-ceiling glass that bares a panoramic view of Makati?s awesome skyline, dahlings.

So here?s to more glorious years ahead for Cosmo-Manille?s hostess with the mostest, Mely Concepcion Hechanova, who definitely knows what real entertaining is all about. Cheers! palangga.

Philippine Gamma Knife Center?s 10th year

Went to this fantastic happening last week where moi found out, palanggas, that there is a nonsurgical way to treat brain tumors. It has been available in the country for quite some time now, will you believe.

Celebrating its 10th year is the Philippine Gamma Knife Center (PGKC), which has already treated thousands of patients suffering from benign and malignant tumors, vascular disorders, and functional disorders, among others, palanggas.

It?s all in the Leksell Gamma Knife, ?a radiosurgical tool that delivers ionizing radiation to the brain to treat various diseases.?

But more interesting than this space-age tool, dahlings, are the people who use them. And not surprisingly, they are the crme de la crop of the country?s top medical PGKC circle like Dr. Jaime F. Flor, Dr. Adonis Gascon and Dr. Theodor Vesagas of Cardinal Santos Medical Center; Dr. Daniel Ong Kian Koc, Chinese General Hospital; Dr. Camelia J.N. Posuncuy, Manila Doctors Hospital; Dr. Alfredo L. Tan, University of the East-Ramon Magsaysay Medical Center; and Dr. Jose A. Aguilar, Philippine General Hospital, among the tons of others that were present, palanggas.

This fantastic procedure has been in use for more than 30 years in 26 countries, having treated more than 180,000 cases worldwide.

In the Philippines, the only Leksell Gamma Knife facility can be found at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center on Wilson Street, Greenhills, San Juan.

Yes, dahlings, the best doctors are still on our shores.

Visit the PGK offices at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center compound. Call 7259254, 7237575 or 7260776.

Cofradia recollection

The devoted Cofradia group held a fun recollection lunch at the sprawling residence of woman of substance Helen Ong.

Aprs the superb lunch, guest speaker, Fr. Tito Caluag, gave a tres inspiring talk on ?Our personal relationship with the Lord.?

?Cofradia members meet every month for recollection with different hosts at different places,? explained another top hostess herself Nene Leonor, natch!

Playing hosts last February were Oscar and Bootsie Violago in their Corinthian Gardens residence. Hosts last month were stylish Justa Tantoco, Karen Macasaet and mega couturier Bobby Novenario in Bobby?s gorgeous mansion in chi-chi North Forbes Park, dahlings.

Vitra Design Gallery opening

It was one of those rare times when the partying mob came fashionably on time, dahlings, since we were all excited to enter the new Vitra Design Gallery at 3/F, Mos Bldg., Bonifacio High Street, Taguig.

Films with various spinning tops from Charles and Ray Eames were shown, the showroom?s light accentuated the iconic furniture displays. From Verner Panton?s bold red Heart Cone Chair to Hella Jongerius? multitextured and multihued Polder Sofa and the astounding classics of Charles and Ray Eames, they were absolutely gorgeous.

Vitra foreign representatives were tres visible, Richard Killip, Vitra Int?l. sales director and George Oberprieler, Vitra Int?l. Ag. who joined the statuesque Vitra local representative Marlene Ong.

While drooling over the gorgeous furniture pieces, invitees partook of the sumptuous culinary delights from Chelsea?s master chef, Sau del Rosario, palanggas.

This fun and interesting happening had to end too soon, but not before everyone gave loud ?cheers? with the bubbly for Vitra! Check it out.

ERRATUM: In the last issue, one of the places in China was misspelled ?Sonya.? The correct spelling is Sanya.
