MANILA, Philippines—After a certain age, it is easier to accumulate fat than to burn it off. While it is true that diet combined with exercise is the only sure fire way to get slimmer and fitter, how many of us really get back to our college weight and figure even after years of dieting and exercising?
Those who do become drop-dead sexy again are those who exercise for a living, like gym instructors, yoga gurus, professional athletes and bathing suit models—and many of them are genetically predisposed to have their figures, anyway.
One diet that has worked wonders in controlling my weight is the high protein and low carbohydrate method. That’s because I eat as much of my favorite food—steak, butter and pork chops—as often as I want. Recently, my eating habits took their toll when a blood test showed higher than normal cholesterol and uric acid in my system.
The limit for cholesterol is 200; mine was 215. For uric acid, it’s 6; mine was 6.2. That’s not excessive, since I have been on the Atkins diet now for four years. But my doctor still told me I needed to eat healthier food, like high-fiber carbohydrates (wheat bread and brown rice) and more vegetables and fruits (yep, sugar).
The South Beach diet is definitely a healthier option, but I got so hungry, cranky and unfit for work when I tried it. Despite my ten to twelve thousand steps a day regimen, my weight and fat loss remained at a snail’s pace. But they were quick to rebound whenever I was short of ten thousand steps.
I availed of the Ultraslim treatment from Philosophy salon before my wedding, and I am glad to report of new and better things when I went back for the treatment.
Not only did I get much more encouraging results inch loss-wise, but the treatment has also become more comfortable and the time cut short by 30 minutes from the usual three hours.
The only problem is, Philosophy salon is almost always fully booked. It’s almost impossible to get in on weekends.
Convenient alternative
There’s a more convenient alternative to the Ultraslim treatment: the infrared slimming capsule, also known as Mesolite.
The entire procedure takes just 25 minutes. You are stripped down and tightly wrapped in a fat burning/anti cellulite solution, then made to lie on your back in the slimming capsule for 20 minutes. A cooling fan blows on each side of your exposed head so you can breathe.
You will love your more defined waist and flatter tummy after you step out of the capsure and are unwrapped. Mesolite costs P1,950 per 25-minute session. “Its infrared rays rapidly burn the fat and shrink it from the inside while speeding up your metabolism,” according to Philosophy owner Mikaela Bilbao. “The body will continue burning fat for three days after the treatment.”
As with Ultraslim, you are encouraged to drink lots of water daily—preferably warm water, so you can flush out the melted fat and toxins.
The infrared treatment claims other benefits, such as relief for lower back pain, though it’s not for those with acute joint injury; detoxification; a boost to blood circulation and the immune system; normalization of blood pressure and cholesterol control.
I would not advise giving up diet and exercise, but doing them with twice-a-week treatments of Mesolite would be ideal. Think improvement and not substitution. After all, eating healthy and exercising often also clear up skin, regulate metabolism and improve our bathroom and sleeping habits.
Before trying on Mesolite or Ultraslim, consult your doctor first. The treatments are definitely not for those with autoimmune diseases and open wounds or are pregnant.
Ultraslim is P5,460 per session and includes Mesolite, but a big discount is offered for 10-session packages.
