MANILA, Philippines? The smoky eye look has been a long-standing trend. Every season we see it on fashion runways and on celebrities.
It has been reinvented in various ways and done in all kinds of gradations and colors, but it has the same effect every time?dramatic and sultry while giving the face definition.
Dark eyes can look good on anyone, but it?s the application that may prove daunting. Shu Uemura make-up artist John Pagaduan shows us how to achieve the look with ease.
Step One: BASE
After prepping the face with light foundation, apply crème eye shadow in a neutral color (Pagaduan used Shu Uemura crème eye shadow in M sand brown) over the lid, just until the brow bone. This will ensure a more intense color while making the eye makeup long lasting.
Also this step guarantees a cleaner application. ?Crème eye shadow allows the press shadow to stick, preventing the powder from falling on the under-eye,? explains Pagaduan.
Step Two: BLEND
Brush the powder eye shadow on the crease of the eye, and blend outward so it fades right above the crease. Pagaduan says, ?For the colors, do not limit yourself to black. There are many colors you can experiment with that would look great on smoky eyes.?
Step Three: LINE
Line both upper and lower lash lines (Pagaduan used Shu Uemura Drawing Pencil in Matte Black) to intensify the look. When lining the lash lines, start at the inner corners and draw outwards, making the line thicker as it reaches the end.
?And for a more precise effect, you can try using liquid eyeliner,? Pagaduan suggests. Finish the look with two coats of mascara and a nude lip.
Tip: If you do not have crème eye shadow, try wetting your makeup brush before applying powder eye shadow to achieve the same effect.
