MANILA, Philippines? To give or not to give, that is the question. People like giving gifts, but sometimes, they harm their recipients. Here are some concerns of parents who have gifted their children with cell phones:

?Cell phones enable kids to browse the Internet without restrictions. My kid started visiting porno sites using his phone. Perverted images will linger with him for the rest of his life, and I am to blame for allowing him access to such a world!?

Family life

?After I gave my daughter a cell phone, she started texting a boy she liked. They communicated behind my back, and after a few months, they eloped. These gadgets intrude into our family life. In the past, men would ask permission to visit our daughters. Today, boys don?t want anything to do with the parents of girls they like, and mobile phones allow them to go directly to their targets.?

?Cell phones are a disturbance to people who are studying or working. My kid gets so immersed with texting and entertaining calls at all hours of the day. It has become a constant distraction. Initially, it was a way for me to get in touch with her, but now, it?s even harder to get through to her. She?s in touch with everyone else but me!?

The parents who shared their stories took back the cell phones they gave their kids. They reasoned: ?It?s not worth the risk!?
