TRICKS OF THE TRADE
How to get soft, loose, wavy hair

MANILA, Philippines? It?s the season of relaxed and touchable wavy hair. Universally flattering while requiring minimum maintenance, loose curls can easily be worn from day to night. It can range from laid-back to sexy in an instant, while allowing you to still run your fingers through your tresses.

Draw inspiration from Hollywood stars Kate Hudson, Sienna Miller and Jessica Alba, who are seen with free and easy hair that look effortless to maintain yet glamorous. L?Oréal hairstylist Raymond Ko tells us how to get this hair in these easy steps.

Wash your hair. Assuming you have the time, shampoo hair but skip the conditioner. ?Conditioner makes the hair harder to curl as it leaves the hair flat and increases the oil in your scalp,? explains Ko.

Curl. Towel-dry hair and blow-dry at medium heat until it is 90-percent dry (if a blow-drier is not available, dry your hair with an electric fan). Then wrap big sections of your hair on a medium- or large-barrel curling iron. Catch the tips of the hair with the clamp of the iron and twirl upward, stopping halfway through the length of the hair.

?If you go all the way through, you will end up with full-on curly hair and not the easy waves you want,? says Ko.

Spray on. After all the ends have been curled, mist hair all over with strong hairspray (Ko used L?Oréal Professional Tecni Art Constructor) to make the waves last the whole day.

Just remember to go easy on the hairspray, or you may end up with hard, brittle curls. A finishing product may be applied to smoothen out any flyaway strands. But applying too much can weigh the hair down, so use it sparingly.

Finish up by running your fingers through your hair to loosen the curls.
