MANILA, Philippines?Tall and gorgeous beauty queen and entertainer Ruffa Gutierrez turned another fab year and her birthday celebration was attended by tons of her pals, from show business and Cosmo Manille?s social set, dahlings.
Naturellement, the birthday bash was beautiful and elegant, fit for a queen like the celebrator. Held at the Blue Leaf Pavilion, the high-power bash was hosted by adorable cosmetic surgeon Dr. Vicki Belo, who welcomed Ruffa back to her powerhouse stable of celebrity endorsers, palanggas.
?I?m so happy that Ruffa is back with Belo,? said Vicki. ?She will greatly help us in Belo?s vision of going global.?
The ever-sophisticated Vicki was escorted by her dashing partner and boyfriend, Dr. Hayden Kho, naturellement.
Ruffa came with her good-looking famille, like dad Eddie and mom Annabelle; brothers Richard and Raymond, Rocky, Elvis, Richie, Paul, Monching and Tonton.
Looking glamorous in a tangerine Jun Escario gown, Ruffa ignited the place when she sashayed into the pavilion. Later she changed to a one-shouldered turquoise dress by Rajo Laurel.
Both outfits were designed for her alone with an eye toward stopping the show. Mission accomplished, dahlings. Ruffa looked every inch the beauty queen that she was.
The venue was super eye-catching, designed by Cynthia Almario. Even the carpet at the entrance was in hot pink. The color motif was chosen by Ruffa herself, palanggas.
Each long table had a dark pink rose, capturing the floral arrangement in the rehearsal dinner of the movie version of ?Sex and the City,? which Ruffa had badly wanted to be done for her own party.
Top chef Margarita Fores prepared excellent Italian and international dishes.
Hors d?oeuvres were aplenty, from bite-size barquillos cylinders with salmon roe, to Norwegian salmon and strawberry tartare with leek mousse.
The main courses were spaghettini al burro, pate di fegato raviolini with pink red beet blush, and honey-gloss roast turkey with the best stuffing I had tasted in years.
The food was so good that cucumber-cool Tingting Cojuangco, interior designer Anton Mendoza, and moi went back for more servings.
Interesting: There were even drinks especially concocted for the occasion, like the ?Ruffatini? (made of lychee and rose petal martini) and Rubellini (green grape and prosseco bellini).
Ruffa?s guest list included prominent names from high society, politics and, of course, show biz. Some guests even jetted in just to attend the party.
Rep. Bongbong Marcos and Liza Araneta, who was in a Marc Jacobs outfit, shared a table with moi. Other guests were Anton San Diego, Tessa Prieto-Valdes, Rajo Laurel, and Louie Ysmael.
Also present were beautiful Isabelle Daza, Solenn Heussaff, Dodie Puno, Karen Davila and super-nice hubby DJ Sta. Ana; Carla and Joel del Prado of Cebu; taipan William Gatchalian; Rowena Jamaji from Dubai; movie queen Susan Roces; beauty queen Miriam Quiambao; charming and very pleasant Rufa Mae Quinto; Anne Curtis, Megan Young, Ana Roces, Sunshine Cruz, Bianca King and Assunta de Rossi.
New face
More than 100 established and young designers showed their collections during the Philippine Fashion Week.
Since the theme of the series was ?Green Fashion,? the designers used natural fabrics.
Their creations were enhanced by Artistry Colour, which, according to its drum-beaters, is ?a global leader in skin care and cosmetics and a prestige brand anchored on science and innovative technology.?
The week also marked the fashion debut of Victor Ortega, a popular stylist among celebrities and famous personalities.
Models wearing nothing but Artistry Colour and body suits walked down the runway, carrying a photo that showed one part of a mystery face. The individual photos, when formed into one, would later show the fully made-up face of Tessa Prieto-Valdes?one of Victor Ortega?s muses.
Tessa arrived like a typhoon for the opening show of the Philippine Fashion Week, wearing her trademark traffic-stopping wildly colorful outfit with tons of feathers naturellement. Of course, her face had been made up by Artistry, dahlings.
?Among my muses, I chose Tessa because of her uniqueness which is reflective of Artistry Colour?s distinct products,? Victor told us.
?Artistry?s commitment to improve our industry?s creativity through their world-class products will surely be beneficial to the country?s fashion arena, while making this world a beautiful place?naturally,? said Amor Maclang, director for PR of GeiserMaclang.
