MANILA, Philippines - OMG! Did you see the Eiffel Tower purse of SJP (Sarah Jessica Parker to the novice) in ?Sex and the City??
What about the four or five of them walking down, full shot, mouthing words I can?t understand because I?m looking at the outfits, the shoes? No! No! No! The director cuts the frame to a close-up of that girl living with that luscious actor. I haven?t seen the huge tote bag of Miranda, yet!
And isn?t the closet of SJP the ideal closet for all women? I mean, don?t women always lack space for shoes? That?s why you-know-who had a whole basement full of them! But Manolo Blahniks should sit on real silver poles and dressing rooms filled with Armanis, Vivienne Westwoods should have two doors that open so you can walk in like a princess!
After that, I finally went into the movie. Forget all the three-inch shoes, Dulce, it?s not good for your back.
Those girls laugh and snicker together in Mexico and New York!
But what I like much about those girls is that they are all so take charge and hold big-time jobs which make them big-time earners of their own money and so do not choose a man to finance them. They can do it themselves, thank you.
Reminds me of my Circle in the City. My Manila. I got to be SJP because my face is pointed. My other gal pals are Mariles, Grace, Mitos, Chiqui.
I change haircuts and hair colors: purple, platinum with blue, orange, red. My other gal pals stay with black but we walk down Greenbelt sometimes and we?re all so whacking beautiful.
More than that, Mariles is managing director of a multi-national ad agency, Chiqui is CEO of hers, Mitos is CEO of a Media Company and I used to be broadcast manager and deputy creative director of Mariles? agency, but I overworked myself to tears and had an open-heart surgery and a pacemaker.
Still, I wore three-inch heels of thigh boots even in the summer heat. Style + Personality = Individuality.
Ad girls
We were all in one ad agency at one time! And you can imagine the volcanic bursts when we would argue business-wise.
Mariles: The TV commercial (TVC) has to break two weeks from now.
Mitos: Wow.
Chiqui: (Says something in Ilonggo)
Grace: I gotta change copy first.
Dulce: What?? I need two weeks for just frames 10-13 for special effects, you?ll still change copy and you want me to break in two weeks? The earth only revolves in such a way that there are only 24 hours in a day! Ask Copernicus! (I am a theater actress so I am the Drama Queen)
Mitos: We?ll lose the client if we don?t break.
Chiqui: (Says something in Ilonggo.)
But we hold hands, catch each other, run to the client, work four nights without sleep, our mothers not knowing whether their daughters moved to Curacao.
We never lost any business. We got new businesses. Ha. Take that.
I fell in love so I begot my son. So did Grace who begot two daughters. But Mariles, Mitos and Chiqui remained grounded: Mariles is married to her horse (she?s an equestrian); Chiqui is married to her Ilonggo family and Mitos to her friends. They are all educated in New York and San Francisco. Chiqui knows New York like the back of her hand and only speaks English there.
We hold each other?s hands. But when a Miranda-thing happened to Grace and I, and we got divorced, my friends caught me from the cliff I fell from.
Grace was stronger. She hung on to one rock. I got particularly sick and only told Mitos. Three days later she texted and said: I told our friends. Something like this should not be kept from them.We did not wear Manolo Blahniks. We wore our hearts on our sleeves so we could see if one of had a heartache.
Tragedies
Today, we can call each other?s secretary and surely you?ll get them on the phone even if it?s just to tell them there?s a sale somewhere. At the end of ?Sex in the City,? (the movie, not us) all their tragedies were solved by holding hands and walking down Manhattan?s sidewalks.
Chiqui e-mailed me once when I was down: I love you. And she was the one who got cancer and was healed.
Grace has a secret she will not reveal when she was an expat in Jakarta. But she always tells me: Mi casa, su casa.
Mariles hired a car to bring me to the doctor when it was an emergency and there was no car at home.
Mitos woke me up and enrolled me in a healing session she also attended.
In the end, we five are just like SJP and her friends. We laugh, I am the only one who cries, but we hold hands down the streets of our lives. We are ?STC??Sisters In The City.
