MANILA, Philippines—Are you not satisfied with things that are happening in your life? Would you want to create a change in your health, relationships or financial situation?
The following energizing ritual for the home, which has always worked for me, may just be what you need.
For a start, clean your closet and dispose of clothes you have not used for one year. Scrub clean the rest of the house while getting rid of all the clutter. Rearrange the furniture. Then take a bath and don your favorite attire.
Create an altar with flowers and sacred symbols where you can light a candle (fire element). Light an incense (air element). While fervently and silently reciting your intention, walk barefoot around the house. As you ring a bell, spray spring water (water element) and throw salt (earth element) into the nooks and corners of your home.
This is similar to a house blessing, except that you are your own priestess (or priest) actively ritualizing your prayer.
In her book “Sacred Space,” Denise Linn says “Our homes are mirrors of ourselves. They reflect our interests, beliefs, hesitations, our spirit and our passion. It is a place where you can interface with the universe, a crossing point in time and space that can attract energy or repel energy.”
Karen Kingston, author of “Creating Sacred Space with Feng Shui,” also states, “Everything in your outer life, especially your home environment, has an effect on you, from the smallest ornament to the largest design structure. Your home is the living portrayal of what’s happening in your life.”
I visited a friend in California who, although 10 years divorced, was still in constant verbal conflict with his ex-wife. He also had just broken off his engagement with a current flame that had been running seven years.
His garage was filled with things from his previous marriage. His living space was like a warehouse of furniture.
I asked his permission to move things around, to his delight. My simple initiative turned my four-day visit into a major spring-cleaning and energizing ritual.
It must have worked, because a few months after my return to Manila, he wrote that he had a new girlfriend. It has been five years since, and they have become happily married.
My mother is 82, but she looks so much younger. Although she sometimes walks with a cane, she has a straight back and has a joyful disposition. When I visited her in our hometown two years ago, she looked old and was suffering from arthritis, a pinched nerve and an allergic cough.
It was then that I undertook a major clean-up and renovation of our 100-year-old ancestral home, where energies stagnated in the nooks and corners of her abode. Despite her resistance, we disposed of all the old and meaningless items she was attached to.
The influx of new furniture, appliances, linen and decor for her home sent by the family must have opened up new energies. My mother felt a new sense of abundance, satisfaction and excitement. Now, I no longer hear her coughing.
Everything is energy. We are immersed in an ocean of energy, inside us and around us. When we change our inner reality, such change is reflected in our outer reality. Thus, we can alter the situations in our life by transforming the energy field in our living environment.
