Makeover 911
RP-made skincare and cosmetics line making waves abroad

MANILA, Philippines—Did you know that the Philippines’ VMV Hypoallergenics line of skincare and cosmetics is making waves in New York, Hong Kong and Thailand?

VMV’s Ohh La Lash mascara (P1,000), which thickens, lengthens and defines each lash without clumping and smearing, has been getting good reviews abroad.

For skincare, getting high praises is the Armada Full Spectrum Sunblock.

See for yourself, google it!

Other bestsellers are the ID line for the acne-prone face and Body Wise, which can also be used by those with ingrown hair and chicken skin.

VMV Hypoallergenics has been known to counteract a good range of allergens. The products are safe even for sensitive babies.

The VMV slogan is “The desperate come to us!”

At C.O. Bigelow’s, VMV’s price scale is high-end, parallel to that of Kiehl’s.

VMV products have been written about in Elle and Allure May 2008 issue. Check out its website, www.vmvhypoallergenics.com.where prices are in dollars. Appreciate how much cheaper VMV is locally.

VMV Hypoallergenics’ world-famous Armada sunblock is on sale in stores nationwide. The sale happens only once a year and your last chance to enjoy it is July 31.

The VMV Armada Baby SPF 60 is a sunblock safe enough even for newborn; and Armada Moisturizing Protective Lip Balm SPF 60 has the highest SPF among lip balms I know.

I am a disciple of the VMV Armada Sport SPF 70 which is water- and sweat-proof, but does not feel sticky. Even men use it for golf and on the beach.

Fanny Serrano

Another local makeup line which is getting noticed abroad is Fanny Serrano for Fashion 21. Its newest hit is True Light Liquid Lipstick (P299), a hybrid gloss and lipstick that comes in sheer nude colors that look like your lips but even better.

What makes the lipstick unique is its ingenious design: The moment you uncap the lid, a light switches on. At the side of the tube is a silver strip that acts as a mirror. When you apply the wand to your lip, the light focuses on your mouth so you can retouch anywhere, even in badly lit places like cars, clubs, movie houses, etc.

My favorite shades are Sandwash, Petal, Henna and Mauve. They could have been handy on my wedding day if they had been around earlier.

Godiva

A reasonably priced Laser hair removal treatment is Godiva Skin Station, which has brought in a new laser hair-reduction machine called Harmony.

It takes between eight to 10 sessions spaced five to six weeks apart, but they are reasonable priced at P2,000 per session for underarm and bikini area; P1,150 for upper lip; and P6,500 for lower arm.

Treatment is totally painless everywhere except for the bikini area where there is heat discomfort on certain spots.

Inquire about promo packages for more discounts.

Sessions range between two to 10 minutes depending on the area treated. Treatment is available only at the Bel-Air branch.

Call 7516140 for inquiries.

Summer scents

Fragrances launched as summer limited editions (LE) are a worthy investment here at the tropics where temperatures range from warm to very hot most of the year.

Davidoff’s Cool Water launches another successful LE for summer—Freeze Me. As expected it has a very clean refreshing aquatic scent, but both variants have mint leaves plus the feel of crushed ice when sprayed on.

The men’s variant has more citrus like grapefruit, mandarin orange, and lemon while the women’s version has pineapple mint, bamboo and sea breeze. One tip is to store inside the fridge or in a cooler when traveling for the extra chill factor on an especially humid day.
