MANILA, Philippines? The Gig Oca Robles Seamen?s Hospital in Agdao, Davao City was recently inaugurated by Capt. Gregorio S. Oca, founder and president of the Associated Marine Officers and Seamen?s Union of the Philippines-Philippine Transport General Workers Organization (AMOSUP-PTGWO). Also in attendance were Marissa Oca, Yoji Fujisawa, president of All Japan Seamen?s Union, and Capt. T. Manji.
The Davao branch, the fourth seamen?s hospital in the country (the others are in Intramuros, Iloilo and Cebu), will serve seafarers and their dependents in Southern Mindanao. It was named after the 17-year-old youth who once served as president of the Youth for Christ (YFC) in Ayala, Alabang.
Journal
In his journal, Gig wrote: ?Thank you, Lord, for my friends and family?I love them a lot. Ate Mika, Mom (Marissa Oca), Ma, Pa, uncles and aunts, the Ocas, Robleses, Marcoses, Santa Cruzes, Mascunanas, Fernandezes and the Picornells. Thank you, Lord, for YFC, without which I would probably be miserable.?
Gig passed away last March 9. The inauguration of the hospital named in his honor was on his 18th birthday last Aug. 4. His mom paid tribute to him in a short speech.
Marissa hopes that ?the values Gig has shown in his brief but meaningful life permeate among us all?compassion, gratitude and humility.?
