Another 39,000 bags of cement were donated by a cement firm in San Fernando town, southern Cebu, to the Cebu Provincial government for the construction of 130 more school buildings with two classrooms each around the province.
Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc. (TCPI) first donated 25,000 bags of cement on Feb. 14, 2007 to help build 71 school buildings, which are now being used by the public school system in the province, decongesting overcrowded classrooms.
TCPI president and CEO Toshio Komatsu sealed the company?s commitment with the signing of a memorandum of agreement with Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia on June 25 at the Capitol Social Hall.
Vice Gov. Gregorio Sanchez, Jr. and Takahiko Imachi, senior vice president for finance and administration, witnessed the signing.
?We extend our sincere commitment to the cause of education through our second round of cement donation,? Komatsu said after the signing. ?By helping in the transformation of the present, we endeavor to help in the creation of a good future for that matter,? he added.
In her response, Garcia said ?We have mistakenly thought that private business was only after its private property. But this private company with a big heart is practicing corporate social responsibility not just in words but in deeds.?
