MANILA, Philippines? All rooms should have a trash bin. But, this decorative and useful detail is often overlooked. Trash bins are usually last on the list of accessories to buy when furnishing a space.

When the need arises, finding the perfect trash bin may become an arduous task. It is most especially difficult to match a styled and well-arranged room. Not to mention finding the perfect size or shape.

A quick and easy way to solve this problem is to find a container that you can convert into a trash bin. Decorate the outer surface to match the room?s theme or color.

Here are some ideas on how to decorate your trash bin.

Cover the surface with a material of choice. You may use wrapping paper, handmade paper, fabric, corrugated board and even newspaper. It?s all about using the right material and pattern.

If you would like to accent, add a detail or pattern. Applying cutout designs in the traditional decoupage technique is a quick and easy way to decorate the surface. Cut out and glue a page from a magazine or a book. You can even print out a pattern or design you find in the computer or make a collage of photos.

Hand-paint your own design or stencil designs on the surface.

Covering the surface with ribbons, corded tassels and trims can also enhance the look of your trash bin.

You can use extra wallpaper to cover the surface of your trash bin.

If you?re in a funky or playful mood, try covering the surface with faux fur or cuttings from carpets or textured floor mats.

Depending on the material of your choice and the surface of your trash bin, use the proper adhesives like regular glue, double-sided tape, tack guns, etc.

If you need to seal the surface to protect your decorative work of art, buy artist?s spray sealant or shellac and apply as instructed.
